Dr Ruth on Fifty Shades…

Laura from the Bookish website passed this onto me; a very interesting article where Dr. Ruth Westheimer (famous sexologist) reveals Why Men Need to Be More Like Spicy Novels…..

Nora Sutherlin (Tiffany Reisz’ female character in the Original Sinners series) calls them “one-handed reads”,  and – as I’m sure you know – 😉 with good reason. Erotic fiction has boomed since FSOG saw the light of day, gracing the shelves of book stores and e-book dealers alike, the phenomenon turning even the most dubious and scoffing among us onto a genre that we would never before have considered. With the following quote from the above mentioned article Dr Ruth makes an excellent point, one that, until now, I could sense but couldn’t quite articulate:

“…They (men) should create a sensuous drama for their partner, with hills and valleys, rather than think of sex as a movie car chase…”

The slow progression of a written love scene is so much more fitting for the way a woman’s body responds, and Christian, with his teasing build-ups, certainly does that for us in spades. Shunning instant gratification in his quest to push Ana to new erotic heights by making her wait is something we can all take a lesson from. I guess that’s what makes a good literary love scene, slow and growing, stoking, teasing, your imagination glimpsing rather than seeing the full, blaring picture. So akin to foreplay in its nature, is that why we’re reaching between the covers of  these books?

Between the covers – book club

Hello there ladies,

betw c

I trust you’re enjoying your Sunday and heading for a good work week. Thank you for your support with the poll so far, please don’t forget to vote! Scroll down to find it, but I will repost over the month for your voting convenience 😉

This week I had a FANTASTIC reading week, one of the best EVER, and I’m so stoked to share it with you. This little joke pretty much sums it up for me…

This week I read:

tempt p  real1

Tempting the Player by J Lynn/Jennifer L Armentrout was a great read if not a little predictable. Very much like Tempting the Best Man, the first book in the series I raved about last week. Dirty by Megan Hart was next on my list but I opted for Real by Katy Evans instead, due to a few strong recommendations I had here on the blog (thank you, by the way, for those suggestions).

Let me put it to you this way:

Yes, a solid, triple sqyeeeeeeee from me! This book was FANTASTIC!  It has a delicious raw intensity that grabs you by the throat, mauls you, and spits you out the other side, thoroughly chewed. Think Beautiful Disaster on steroids with double the intensity of the This Man series.  Not only was the story gripping but she’s blessed with exceptional writing skills, applying her craft with a daring and fresh approach. She’s left me in awe. From Goodreads I get the impression that this is her first novel, and it seems she has four more planned for this series though – thank goodness – Real does not leave you hanging. If I could award it six stars on Goodreads I would and I’ve listed it as an all time fav. I loved it! So deserving of my Best Of The Best award I’m going to give it two! 😉

Remy is right up there with Christian, Gideon and Jesse – oh sigh! 😉

Currently I’m reading:

Dirty by Megan Hart is, so far, one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. It’s like the adult version of Dr Seuss’ Cat In The Hat. The whole book has a deeply poetic feel to it, a rhythm to her words that gives new meaning to having a way with words. She spins them gently like a cat would weave itself between your legs, purring softly with pleasure. I’m not sure where the story is going yet, but I’m loving the writing. I’ll keep you posted.

On my shelf I have:

Happy reading ladies!

Chapter 45

I’m reposting this, edited… LOL! Three in the morning is not conducive to proper spelling – which I have a problem with anyway! 😉 So, let’s try again. Fresher now than it was last night, find chapter 45 in the sidebar. Thank you Fatima for suggesting Devin Paisley as inspiration for Chris’ piano teacher.

Enjoy! 😀

It’s poll time

Hello fangirls!

book j9

Seeing that our book club segment is so successful, and we all seemed to have scrambled for books to read after finishing FSOG, I thought it would be a good idea to have a poll to decide on the top 8 books (or series of books) to read once you’ve recovered from your inevitable Fifty Shades of Grey hangover. That way, new readers that haven’t been following our book club can catch up with the very best reads ASAP! You’re welcome to add books if you feel I’ve missed some significant ones (or e-mail me and I’ll add them), and to make it an accurate reflection of our opinions, I ask that you only vote once, making a maximum of 8 choices. The poll will be open for a month and I’ll repost regularly to remind you. Once the results have been tallied I’ll place a permanent widget in the sidebar listing our top 8, after FSOG reads. I’ve not done the poll thing before so please bear with me if things don’t go swimmingly from the start.

Thank you, as always, for your support! 😉

Mid week teaser

Firstly, thanks to John Summers and Jo Fergus. The poem I posted yesterday was from Pam Ayers – credit where it’s due!

Business aside it brings us to our titbit for Wednesdays, something from the coming chapter to whet your appetite…..

“…He growls a low, slow groan, running a single lazy finger down my back. Starting at the nape of my neck, between my shoulder blades, down, down, down he goes, past the waistband of my skirt, sliding it along the valley between the globes of my ass that’s visible as a dip in the fabric of my skirt as it spans over the curves there – my thong offering zero resistance for his mischievous, plunging digit…”

On the lighter side…

It’s always good to have a laugh and I have Katherine to thank for this one…

I don’t know the source, it doesn’t belong to me but it’s very funny…….

50 Shades of Grey – the husband’s point of view

The missus bought a paperback
down Shepton Mallet way,
I had a look inside her bag,
T’was “Fifty Shades of Grey”.

Well I just left her to it,
And At ten I went to bed.
An hour later she appeared;
The sight filled me with dread…

In her left hand she held a rope,
And in her right a whip!
She threw them down on the floor,
And then began to strip.

Well fifty years or so ago;
I might have had a peek;
But Mabel hasn’t weathered well,
She’s eighty four next week!!

Watching Mabell bump and grind;
Could not have been much grimmer.
Things went from bad to worse,
She toppled off her Zimmer!

She struggled up upon her feet;
A couple minutes later,
She put her teeth back in and said:
I am a dominater!!

Now if you knew our Mabel,
You’d see just why I spluttered,
I’d spent two months in traction’
For the last complaint I’d uttered.

She stood there nude, naked,
Bent forward just a bit’
I went to hold her sensual like,
and stood on her left tit!

Mabel screamed, her teeth shot out,
My god what had I done!
She moaned and groaned then shouted out:
”Step on the other one!”

Well readers, I can’t tell no more,
About what occurred that day.
Suffice to say my jet black hair,
Turned fifty shades of grey.

Yes, FSOG is everywhere, even in bed stores… 😉

Nicked these one off Facebook… funny! 😉

To the Italian readers, check out chapter 25! Thank you Paola 😀
