Hello, ladies 😉
Boy, the rumour mill sure is working overtime right now. Who knows what you can believe and what is made-up fodder for tabloids, but the fact is the making for Darker seems to be, well, complicated… This is an article from the Mirror ; one that started the gossip merry-go-round. Thanks, Katherine for finding it for us 😉
Here’s Crissy from the Laters, Baby site’s take on all the movie tumult. I’m so with her. Let’s hang tight and not jump to too many conclusions.
I LOVE this following article, a reporter who, as far as I’m concerned, has his head on straight: Check out the full skinny on the The New Yorker site
On the lighter side; what if Cinderella does Fifty Shades?
LOL! – Thank you, Musikstarr for the above two links 😉
Then, Kereny just sent me chapter 45 of the Spanish translation of Meander. Find it in the sidebar for your pleasure 😉
Have a lovely day, girls 😉
Monique xx
Hi Monique – loved the review from the New Yorker and agreed with nearly everything. Regarding the Mirror, piece of trash tabloid that I wouldn’t even use to lift my dogs shite with so I wouldn’t believe anything they write. Saying that most people know my thoughts and I sincerely wish that Jamie would step down – just my opinion
Have a great day

LOL! That low, huh? One of those “alien-baby-born-with-three-heads-and-a-tail” sort of tabloids? The New Yorker was awesome! Loved it! 😉

Loved the New Yorker review. As for that piece of unsubstantiated gossip in the Mirror, just ignore it, utter rubbish and tabloid rumour mongering.

Hey Monique, I’ve been reluctant to share my thoughts on the movie. However, with these rumours circulating I feel it’s time. As you know I loved the books & also your fabulous stories however, I was disappointed with the film. We waited sooooo long for this film & with all the dramas surrounding casting etc I think I was hyped up & came crashing down with a thump! For me the chopping in between scenes was distracting & the leaving out whole sections of the book made my head spin. The ending in the book where she leaves & Taylor hands her his handkerchief had me doing the ugly cry & I had my tissues at the ready & waited….& waited, then……nothing but credits. Aargh! However, I could’ve dealt with that if the acting hadn’t been at best……strained. Monique, I really wanted to love this film & I can understand if the tensions on set were high between Erika & everyone else, if she was seeing what I had seen she may have been a little pissed too. After all at the end of the day, this is her baby! I just hope something sorts itself out for all involved. This is just my opinion & I hope I don’t offend people with my opinion.

I missed the handkerchief scene too…but they didn’t do anything to really make Taylor interesting in the movie, so I didn’t miss it as much. I did like the elevator closing ending, thought that was a nice creative tie-in to the beginning of their relationship.
We definitely needed a longer movie and a few more of our favorite scenes included….but there was no way they could meet everyone’s expectations. Still loved what we got of it, and I’m satisfied with Jamie and Dakota. (again didn’t meet my hopes…but still enjoyed.) I have high hopes for the extras on the DVD.
I would be very surprised if the Jamie rumours were true, but I’m surprised there haven’t been some strong reassurances from the team. Maybe having the fluff stirred up is good for the movie myth? I think this rumour is more damaging for those of us with our hearts on the line.
Such a great review from the New Yorker. Gives me hope if even a few men are able to clue in on what makes the movie so special to us. (My man would never get it…but hoping this is doing some really good things for other ladies.)

LOL for your clueless man, Sharon. Yup, the male species can be very… special 😉 Great comment 😉

I guess we will hear absolutely nothing for a while. There will be a lot of people going to see the movie, just to see what all the fuss is about. That will bring in a lot of cash! Very important for the studio!
Erika will take a break I hope. As for Jamie…..of course he is not going to step away. I am sure Dakota and Jamie have contracts, good ones I hope! I am just so sad about all this….blahblah. Everybody has an opinion, everbody! Sigh….. I just want Darker….soon please. 😊 Janien

I haven’t seen the movie. I have only seen the many trailers over the past few months. Even from those, there was a wide gap between the effort that Dakota put into her role as Ana, and the lack of effort by Jamie. Dakota was brilliant! Having said that. The film was finished a year ago. The cast and crew were off doing other things. Why would Jamie’s wife wait so long to object to his role as Christian Grey? Could it be more likely that the fact that Dakota has been acclaimed as the real star of the show? They are both actors. Dropping out now, may do more harm to Jamie’s career than the film could ever do. More reason for him to, give the role of Christian, everything he has in book 2.
As to reviews. Am I being totally unreal, to suggest that, good, bad, or indifferent. In the case of the FSoG Trilogy, the reviewers should, read the book, before doing a review. Especially as they are paid for those reviews. Would it be too much to ask??
Did anyone watch the Oscar ‘s ? I didn’t watch the show, but I did see Dakota Johnson, wearing a stunning red dress. Apparently, the colour scheme for the night was, Grey and red, grey being the dominant colour lol.

I feel kind of bad that Jamie is getting the brunt of bad press around the performance in the movie. I don’t think the movie gave much depth to Christian’s character, in general, so I can’t really fault Jamie for his performance. Christian is such an interesting character and nuances to his relationship with Anastasia were greatly diminished. If the screenplay were written more true to the book, I think we could have seen more from both actors.

Yes, so true. And in the first book he’s only just realizing that what he has been doing up to then was not working anymore…

There is always going to be gossip and talk to stir up excitement about the next films. Can’t imagine why someone would walk away from something this huge – perhaps it’s all rumour started to get a pay raise for the next instalments?

The New Yorker was a breath of fresh air. I like the intellectual analysis of the movie, which gives some valid insights into the deeper long term meaning of the film.

Wow Monique, The reviewer in the New Yorker was very thorough. He said he did not read the books but he was very knowledgeable when it came to his insight in re: FSOG or he must have an avid reader near by.

I did like the review and felt his insight on the movie was spot on. I feel that the criticism shown towards Jamie Dornan is a motivator for him to be and do great in FSD. Not quit because it might affect the view/relationship with his wife/family. It is very hard doing a movie like this. Not only the popularity that he will gain but he might feel guilty when it comes to his wife.
