Between the covers book club and Spanish chapter

Hello, Lovely Ladies 🙂

How is your weekend going? We’re in the throes of our first Spring rain so I’m stoked. Bring on the blossoms that scream new, WARMER seasons! Yay!

For the Spanish readers, Kereny had a fortuitous break in her schedule this week so I’ve just posted the 61st chapter in the sidebar. Thank you, girlfriend!

The 50 Shades of Grey Support page posted the following video on Facebook – a very romantic reminder of the movie…

This week I read:

Chase Me by Tessa Bailey, book one in the Broke and Beautiful series, was another winner from this great author. She’s gone straight to my “favorite writers” list!

Sustained by Emma Chase, book two in the Legal Briefs series, was another good read. It took my emotions on a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but a sweet read despite a sore moment of heartbreak. I liked it much more than the weird love-triangle situation she had brewing in book one.

Currently I’m reading:

c

Connected by Kim Karr, book one in the Connections series. So far, I’m not feeling it. Isn’t it funny that, with some books, you have (ironically) an instant connection, a fiery yearning to spend every waking moment reading. You cry and hurt with the characters, you love and hope right along with them, while with others, you feel nothing but detachment? I will let you know how it went with next week’s chat.

Here is a glimpse of the books we can expect in September – taken from my Goodreads list.

Oh no, Kath! I HATE being in a slump. It’s so depressing! Have you read the Chasing Fire series yet? Written by Ann Marie Walker and Amy K Rogesrs. Extremely similar to FSOG but I really enjoyed the first two books and now waiting with bated breath in book 3! Perhaps that’s the one for you? Good luck, my friend. I hope you find something AWESOME soon! 😉

  5. Good morning ladies. I have been busy the last two weeks redding the crossfire books. They were a very Interesting and emotionally draining read with sine similarities to fsog but I had such a difficult time connecting with Gideon even though I liked his character. Now I will have to wait to read book five to see how series ends. I have a coupe of busy weeks coming up so I might get to do much reading but I’m hoping to get started on the catching fire series. Will let you know how I go. Enjoy your week ladies.

That’s so interesting, Camela! I, on the other hand, LOVE Gideon, dare I say more than Christian…? But it took me a while to get over the immense overlapping with with FSOG. You’ll love Chasing Fire if you want more FSOG style reads! Good luck with your busy week 😉

Interesting monique. The only characters that I thought could topple Christian would be Bennett and max from the beautiful bastard series. Max is definitely my new book boyfriend but Christian will always be my favourite. I’m sure there’s lots more out there maybe I will find someone new whilst reading all these fabulous books. Some fun times ahead I’m sure

I know I said that I would read some suggested books…and I did download a sample of Gabriel’s Inferno (which didn’t really do much for me…!). But I just keep re-reading my dear Mr Cross, hoping that #5 will come out soon. Monique, can you recommend any other books that have a similar story to Crossfire….with as much heat and love?? Cxx

I loved the This Man series by Jodi Ellen Malpas, the Real series by Katy Evans, and the Chasing Fire series by Ann Marie Walker and Amy K Rogers. Of those I’d say Real is the hottest, but it took a while for the two of them to get together. This Man has a fantastically hot male protagonist, and Chasing fire has a very similar story line to FSOG/Crossfire. Those would be the ones I’d go for. They are ALL very sexy. Gabriel’s Inferno didn’t do much for me by way of book boyfriend, either.

Wow, SO shocked to hear Christian is not #1 for Monique!! That ranks right up there w/learning about Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy! I guess that just means more Christian for the rest of us. I don’t believe the fictional man has been invented that would ever bump Christian from that spot for me. Gideon is, however, quite secure in his #2 spot for me. Whether or not Sylvia does anything more with him.
I’m out of genre again, reading the Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress series, so far I’ve read 5 out of 8 books. Hated the first book which was a novella, but have very much enjoyed the other books. Good thing I started with book #2 first! And I love enjoying a series which is COMPLETED, and I don’t have to wait on the author to write the next book! (That goes for you, Sylvia Day.) I love the erotic sexy books, be they paranormal or just hot romance. Never had any idea growing up of how good Vampires would be in the sack. Live and learn.
We’ve been busy preparing for 50 shades of Tropical Storm Erika…then she fizzled out. I thought with that name, we’d better batten down the hatches but good!
I’d love to have the nerve to drive that volkswagen around…think that would be a major attention getter! Christian would want to tint that back end a nicely spanked red!

LOL! Oh, I still wouldn’t mind a bite out of CG, but that vulnerability/strong/controlling thing Gideon has going on just does it for me! And I’m with you, Sharon, sucks to waaaaaaait for books so damn long! And double yes for skilled vampers, but then again, with all that practice one would hope that they’d reach the top of their game! LOL! I think that Beetle would give CG nothing short of a coronary! Imagine if Ana showed up in that. Whahaha! 😉

    HI Girls,
Well I’m still in the cool of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, but head back the heat of Southern Oklahoma on Wed. I finished “My Liege of Dark Haven” by Cherise Sinclair. Now as I’ve stated many times that I love her book. BUT this one for me is at the bottom of the list. There were lots and lots of sex but the story line was weak. I loved the idea of Xavier being the strong Dom, but he came across a bit wussy for me. The story between Xavier and Professor Abigail Bern was like watching someone going for the last time and just kept coming up for air. Book just didn’t do it for me.
Monquie you mentioned that there is novella written by Tiffany Reisz in Kingsley POV. What is the name of the novella?

Hi Crystal, I was mistaken, it’s NOT a novella but a full book, it’s The King, The Original Sinners: White Years, book 2. The story about the baby and whose it is is at the very start of the book. ENJOY! 😉 I hate having a sucky reading week. I hope yours improve! 🙂

Thanks Monique….ok, This Man and Chasing Fire it is then. Completely agree with you about Gideon….he’s hot, he’s deep, he’s possessive, he’s strong, he’s vulnerable, he’s THE MAN!
Now if only SD would release the next book. I would like a book/series on Cary as well….what do you know about the Blacklist books?

    Like

    • Monique Lain says:

You’re welcome 😉 Blacklist?? Nothing, unfortunately. I know the Blackstone Affair books but I’ve not read a series called Blacklist. As for This Man, I don’t know how fussy you are with writing style, but just as a FYI, Jodi is British so she writes in BE not AE. Not that it should matter, just good to know going in.

Blacklist is the new series that SD is going to release after #5, this year.
I actually wouldn’t mind a #6 as long as it explores their life as a married couple without so much angst! I would prefer to see them navigate their way through living together, parenthood, etc.
The timeline from BTY to OWY is only 3mths so I think there is still a lot to tell.
Maybe the story will develop as a TV series instead.
Sharon, I would love to read Cary’s story and see his HEA. I would love to see inside his head to see if there are any feelings there for Eva, or regrets of what could have been.

Hi Ladies… All the good books coming up my hands are doing “happy claps”…
So I read Bromberg “Sweet Ache” you know I was really surprised cause I liked it a lot!! It had a great story, sexy hotness and gave me a break from all the intensity of Ruin & Rule!! I tell you sometimes I give myself the nightmares… I am my own worst book buddy.
I am so totally with the girls of L.O.G. On the Christian loyalty but do feel a “deep” hotness for Jesse he was quite The Man. Gideon well he is like a knight saving the damsel not as sexy as Jesse but damn he is hard to forget.
I am totally going for the Hold On book and jumping in with Sharon for the J. kenner – new one. A little leary of the Hard wired new # whatever it is now cause I really felt that story could of been ended in the last book. Sigh! You know it really has started to urk me that there is no end to Crossfire! What is with that… The least an author can do is finish the story for her fans before we are 100 years old!!

    Love to my ladies ❤

Hi Monique, I have spent the last few days reading the This Man Trilogy….what can I say? I was initially frustrated because of all the sex (ha ha, ironic I know!)……I just couldn’t understand how she could fall in love with him when she didn’t know anything about him!! All they did was #%^*!!! He was so crazy possessive and aggressive with no explanations at all. Lust I understand but love??!! But I hung in there because you recommended it so highly and my word, it takes the cake for heart-stopping twists….I think my heart actually stopped several times and then galloped like a horse! There was so much to discover in the end and so much to “confess”…..I couldn’t believe how thick the plot was throughout. In the end, I loved it and want to re-read it again right now. But Ava definitely has more faith and forgiveness in her heart than most women I think. I have a lot of questions about the book and I’m not sure whether it’s okay to ask them here, for fear of spoiling the story for others…??? It’s interesting that you thought Crossfire was so similar to FSOG….I thought This Man was very similar to FSOG. I now see so many similarities between the three stories and 6 lead characters! I still prefer SD’s writing style though and Gideon is my #1! Cxx

Hello Casey 🙂 So glad you enjoyed it. Yup, this is DEFINITELY the forum to voice your questions and thoughts, but when we talk spoilers, we mark the reply so that peeps reading it know where to stop if they don’t want to see it. For example: **SPOILERS** After which you can spoil away 😉 The first book of Crossfire was similar to FSOG to me but from book 2, I feel, she makes the story her own. Funnily enough, though there were some similarities to FSOG for me in This Man, the book didn’t particularly strike me as a copy. In fact, most books in the genre bear some sort of FSOG stamp: rich guy/innocent girl, broken guy, guy leading girl into sexual awakening, ALL of them are built around the “soulmate they can NEVER again be without”, and all with the inevitable HEA. It’s the recipe that has us hooked and frankly, I personally don’t want that to change. Yes, I agree with you, SD has a magnificent writing style, I only wish she would use it more!!!

Thanks Monique….okay I’ve started reading This Man again and haven’t come up with any questions from this book as yet but am finding it interesting viewing Jesse from a new light now that I know his whole story…..but the last question that I had in my mind when I finished the trilogy the first time is this….why do you think Beatrice called Sarah a vindictive bitch at the hospital?! I wouldn’t have thought that they would have had anything/much to do with each other….I am sure the other questions will pop back into my head as I read the books again. I agree that the format of all these books are very similar and it is a very addictive read! Thanks so much for recommending this series to me! Cxx

Oh dear, Casey! I would definitely call myself a FSOG and Crossfire “expert” but though I LOVED the This Man series, I only read it once! And that was what feels ages ago! LOL! Sorry but I can’t remember. I do, however recall Sarah being exactly that! With all the scheming she did and the damage she tried to do to their relationship I’m not surprised she was called that and worse.
