This week I read:
After Dark by M. Pierce, book three in the Night Owl series, was interesting. The writing was exceptional and the story very intriguing: a writer seemingly writing a book about him or herself, using the same name writing the story in the book as the author, telling his or her story. The criss-cross narrative boggles the mind, the characters are well developed, and the story intelligent. All in all, a good read if not a little long winded. I’ve shared a few quotes over the course of the series, and here’s another highlighting his/her beautiful way with words.
Currently I’m reading:
Priest by Sierra Simone, book one in the Priest series. I’m still not sure how I feel about this book. The writing is good, and it’s VERY steamy, but unlike the Original Sinners series, this one skirts too close to religion for me to feel entirely comfortable with the theme.
On my shelf I have:
Watch Me Fall by Cherrie Lynn, book five in the Ross Siblings series. I love this author and I’m thrilled to see a new book from her.

I know where you’re coming from regarding the religion aspect of Priest, It was a bit too much for me at the beginning but once I really got into the story it didn’t bother me as much.
This week I read Midnight Mass which is a continuation of Tyler and Poppys story and I really enjoyed it not as much religion or sex this time but I have to say the epilogue really disturbed me I actually put it down a few times to take a breather before I could continue reading. Don’t think I’ve ever taken so long to read a chapter but apart from that really good.
I’m back to having nothing to read again help ladies!!

Seen the clip she looked like she was enjoying herself lol now I am probably in a minority here but for me kissing licking or even touching my neck is a sure fire way for hubby to get a bloody nose 😁 nothing turns me of quicker!!

Katherine….exactly how I felt with the first husband. Divorced him after too many years. However, second husband has my neck whenever he wishes, whenever he demands. Might be the partner, not you. His touch, his approach, not your reaction.
However, am in NO WAY suggesting a change. There are many other body parts that can be attended to without a bloody nose.

You know, Katherine…different strokes for different folks and all that…but that video did give me the whim-whams. That guy surely knew what he was doing, I would love to hear the backstory on who they were and where does he live, and does he take requests…and would he fancy a more mature woman…..LOL. A girl can dream. Glad it hit “the spot” for the rest of you. Monique and I had fun melting over it last week.
Talking about Tiffany Reisz last week found me reviewing her website stories, and I was delighted to find three that had been added since my last visit. (Some time ago.) What a great treat! She has another Christmas short that is to be uploaded in just a couple of days. And…I re-read Misbehaving as Monique reminded me of it last week, and it had been a couple of years since I enjoyed. I also started reading Captivated, which looks to be two novellas, the first called Letting Go written by Megan Hart, and the second is Seize The Night by Tiffany. Right now I’m in the middle of Letting Go, and enjoying the tale. Will let you know next week if worthy of your attention. Hope everyone is enjoying the season!

I ask the indulgence of the group as I didn’t see one thing about FSOG in this week’s digest….so I thought I’d give you this tidbit of insight from the other night. Was watching “Working Girl”, a movie from 1988 with Dakota’s mother (as if she doesn’t even have a name anymore…lol) and Harrison Ford. Ladies, if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you do for the amusing comparisons. There’s scene where Melanie Griffith wakes up in bed with Harrison Ford after having had too much to drink the night before. She doesn’t know what has happened between them. The similarities of the scene are many and amusing and, because of how influential the film was at the time, likely ELJ used this as a source either consciously or subconsciously. It’s also amusing the many scenes where Melanie Griffith enters an office and has to hand over her coat to the secretary in charge. In the film, she is a fish out of water, being a secretary posing as an executive. Comparisons to how her daughter did essentially the same scenes is a great game. Third, Melanie Griffith does a whole lot of lip-licking, absolutely comparable to the lip-biting. And finally, there are elevator scenes galore which also invite comparisons.
ELJ and I are roughly in the same age group that saw “Working Girl”. It was an exceptionally important film from the era, receiving an Academy Award nomination. (I personally feel it doesn’t hold up very well but it’s still enjoyable. And it’s worth it to see the World Trade Center, as it was filmed in one of the tower’s lobbies.) It was a second wave of “feminist” inspired film that women don’t have to stay in the secretarial pool. ELJ saw this film, I am sure and I’m sure it was floating in her brain when she wrote. My seeing this film reminded me of the little “flashbacks” I had when I was reading FSOG. If you have the time, see what you think.
Haven’t had much time to read for fun in “the genre”, but very much enjoyed the final book in the “Remind Me” series. I also liked Tara Sue Me’s most recent book “The Exhibitionist.” I think I finally realized why many don’t connect as much with her books as with so many that Monique writes about: they are almost textbooks on how a woman learns to deal with her feelings of submission, rather than novels of romance with a good dollop of sex, be it kinky or not.

Interesting Lissa. I haven’t seen the movie for a really long time, I’ll have to check it out. Hadn’t thought about the similarities. I remember it was basically a fun fairy tale, but then so is FSOG. Just with floggers.

Holy moly. I know a few who could have used that video as homework. Yikes.
I got my major piece from my creative writing unit back a couple of weeks ago and very happy with the feedback. I asked mum to open it to see what mark I got and see freaked at all the scribbles and notes on the page, though they’re all good ones. So I now have most of a chapter, but I just need to work out what to do with it.
I’ve been on holidays for a few weeks now, so have been able to finally lock myself away, in the air con, and go nuts with reading. I think I’m starting to come out of my slump too. Though, I can’t really tell you what I’ve read, as I’ve read so many and iBooks ‘reset’ itself so now all my books are out of order and any I was part way through have gone back to the beginning ! Absolutely fuming ! 😡
I do know I finished Pucked Up, and I was a good way through If You Dare by A.R. Torre, but I’m sticking to The Stocking Was Hung by Tara Sivec, who has not disappointed.

Well done on the assignment! Good for you! I know what you mean with iBooks. I had a similar experience until I realised I was in the “All” setting instead of the “books” setting. (On my phone the drop box is on the top middle of the screen.) Perhaps you’re having the same issue I had. Good luck snd happy reading 😉

Well it been two weeks in hell. Not the husband this time but my only child/son. He was shipped to a major teaching hospital about 100 miles away because we need a large group of differnet specialist doctor. He had human Parvo virus attack his bone marrow and stopped his red blood cell production causing severe anemia. Normal man’s hemoglobin is 12-17 and he was admitted with a 5.4. So has been given many blood transfusion. Also the virus killed out the beta cell in the pancreas causing diabetes. He is home now but it’s a day to day thing and may still have to have more tranfusions,
I did do a bit of reading while setting with him at the hospital. I read book 5 in the Club Destiny series “Devotion”, by Nicole Edwards. I give it a 4.5. This is about a 3 sum M/M/F that are bound to each other in every way and chose one of the guys to father their child. The sex is great in this book, not just between the 3 of them ,but I loved the most the sex and love is between the two guys. That’s my thing.
I also finished the seventh book in the Original Sinners series by Tiffany Riez “The King” I rate it a 4.5. I have just started “The Queen” but between my son and the holidays not forsure how much reading I will get done.
Hope every one has a wonderful Holiday and for my family we will be so fucking glad to kick 2015 in the ass and say goodbye.

Crystal….so very sorry to hear about your son. What a year your family has had! Sounds like it will be a long journey for his health to stabilize. Glad you at least enjoyed the video! And glad that you have Tiffany Reisz to still enjoy. Just stopped what I was doing and said prayers for all of you. I had extreme anemia a few years ago, and it was amazing the difference the transfusions made. Hope he feels good enough to enjoy some of the joy of the holiday.
Tiffany posted her Christmas short story today on her website. It’s called “Poinsettia”…it’s FREE…and it’s all about 20 year old Soren!! No spoilers, but it is a GREAT Christmas story. I completely loved it.
AND in her letter she sent with it , she said that she was not done writing her Original Series characters…just done for now! So we have more to look for down the road. YAY!!!!!
She is doing a booksigning next October about an hour away from me. I’ve never been to a booksigning….but I may have to go to that one just because I so admire her work. Of course, I would have to buy a physical book for her to sign….all mine are e-books.

Hi ladies, I read the new TR Christmas story and liked it for the background it gives us of Soren’s story. I’m so glad to hear that there will be more stories to come! I also read an interview with Tiffany in which she said that Kingsley wasn’t meant to be a major character but somehow snuck in there during the Prince. As much as I like his character, I still would have preferred the story to focus on a couple and not a trinity.
I have started re-reading the Crossfire series as it’s been a while…..also, I’ve been reading a couple of Emily Giffin books lately. Not sure if any of you have read her romance novels (not erotica, ladies!) but I think she’s an amazing writer. I read Heart of the Matter and it’s written in a way that you can truly see both sides of the story. Have any of you read this book? What did you think? Cxx

I read all sorts of books but I do like Emily Giffin because she writes so well about relationships….but definitely no spice. Cxx PS. I love re-reading!

Me too, Casey. Often I’ll open a book I love just to glance at it, and it reaches out and swallows me whole. Especially when I’m in a book slump. FSOG did that many times, and I have been thinking about Christian a LOT lately. I just miss him and have been thinking I was due for a re-read. Monique, that would be a fun topic for your blog sometime. I’d love to know the books everyone goes back and back to. (I know you may not, but I suspect many of us do.)

FSOG was the ONLY book ever that’s MADE me go back. Originally, I read and reread it 8 times, back to back, cover to cover. Eventually I started writing my story in an effort to purge it from my obsessed mind. I was almost in a state of mourning, terrified that I may never find and enjoy another book! LOL! My first book after FSOG was Jamie McGuire’s Beautiful Disaster, and though I could recognise it as a good book it left me feeling wanting. After that I went to Crossfire where I fell in deeper love with the genre. Luckily I’ve not looked back since. I reread FSOG just before the movie, so that makes 9, but I’ve never managed to go back to a whole series like that again. Seems I’m a love ’em and leave ’em kinda’ girl. Strange, huh? The Bible is the only book that now features regularly in my life 🙂

Totally agree Sharon. I’m re-reading Reflected in You at the moment…..love GC!!! Whilst I like the FSOG series, I prefer the writing styles of other authors so I haven’t re-read Christian Grey for a while….. Have you read Emily Giffin?

Priest was not for me, Casey but I know quite a few readers who loved it. The writing was good, the sex was steamy, but I really disliked the way it made me feel. Not once in the Original Sinners did I feel Reisz overstepped the line into blasphemy but with Priest, I felt that almost off the bat. It’s a deeply personal opinion but it put me right off. I guess it is something one is going to have to decide for oneself.

No, I didn’t finish it and my review would have been the same as last week’s comment: good writing, hot lovin’, but I have a personal problem with the content.
