Between the covers book club

Hello, lovely ladies! 😉

Happy Easter! Have some hot cross buns….

easter

LOL! Thank you, Sharon for the cute share 😉

I don’t often get on my soapbox, but today is the day. I wish with all of my little heart that the writing world would get the following correct. Authors not knowing the difference between come and cum is my pet peeve.

Share it far and wide, girls 🙂

This week I read:

Roomhate by Penelope Ward was disappointing considering how much I enjoyed Cocky Bastard. The back story was weak, the progression was extremely slow, and I found no real depth in the characters. Such a pity.

Beat by Vi Keeland, book two in the Stage series, was a good read. Sweet and entertaining. I enjoyed it.

A Necessary Sin by Georgia Cates, book one in the Sin Trilogy, was not for me. Sorry, girls. I’m not done yet, but I’ve put it aside for now. I’m not enjoying her writing style. It’s formal and sparse on emotion, almost mechanical in nature (though I concede that this is a personal preference for me, not necessarily something that will put everyone off), but the plot holes are second to none. I’ve said it many times before: our genre very often goes beyond plain fiction, straight into fantasy for all it’s OTT Alpha’s and the non-stop lovin’, and I understand that it should be read as such, but I still prefer my stories to be in the realm of plausibility. Perhaps I should continue to see where she goes with it, but it’s impossible for me to envision how she’ll manage to fix these massive gaps.

Currently I’m reading:

bty

Belong To You by Vi Keeland, book one in the Cole series.

On my shelf I have:

rc

Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley, book seven in the Rock Chick series.

This coming April sees a bumper month for new books, not least of which is the looooong awaited One With You, Crossfire book number five by Sylvia Day. Let’s take a look at my list thanks to Goodreads:

    Happy Easter ladies
Interesting to read your review on Roomhate I’ll leave it for now.
Well this week I read Porn Star, The Big Edition by Laurelin Paige and Sierra Simone, I always enjoy both these authors work and this didn’t disappoint.
At present I’m reading Midnight Lily by Mia Sheridan (Archers Voice) I’m 45% in and I am loving it. Unfortunately with having visitors I can’t read as much as I want to but hopefully get finished in the next day or so.
I wanted to send you a copy Monique but Amazon UK doesn’t let me do that. 😕
Crystal always mentions the weather in the USA making me jealous so I thought I’d share ours. Summer starts tomorrow and we have a weather warning in place heavy rain and gale force winds ……. don’t you love the Irish weather lol
Have a great week everyone xxx

LOL! Summer starts tomorrow??? Aren’t you still supposed to be in spring, Katherine? And how was your date with the spa?
Mia Sheridan is always good for an enjoyable read. Did you know she sold the movie rights to Archer’s Voice? I’ll check out Porn Star, I’ve been seeing it float through my suggestions.
Stay safe in your wild weather and enjoy your guests 😉

lol could be spring but according to the news the newscaster informed us to put the clocks forward 1hr tonight for the start of British summer time, with the weather we have don’t really take notice of the seasons 😉 The spa was amazing then I drank my way through the cocktail menu while reading my kindle in the bar on Monday night in front of a log fire I usually spa with my friend but to be honest I nearly enjoyed it better alone.
I heard that about Archers Voice. not sure how that will work.
Meant to say wow love the picture if Jamie soo sexy, that is the first time I’ve ever said that about him!

LOL! In that case, happy summer! 🌷Oohh, alone time with your Kindle and cocktails at the spa?? Sounds like HEAVEN!
Yeah, that pic is pretty steamy. It’s strange but his looks vary drastically for me. Sometimes I think he’s okay, that he could pull off CG, other times I can’t see his sexy AT ALL!

Hello. That’s very strange. Thank you for letting me know. I post EVERY weekend so you should be seeing an updated front page post on a weekly basis. In fact, you commented on a commend that was just made yesterday. Are you using a mobile version of WordPress or off a PC? I would suggest logging out and then logging back in. Sometimes, with a mobile update, you meed to reset the allowances. Let me know how you go, please. Hope that works.
Ps: I’m finished writing my stories, so more than likely, those pages won’t be updated.

You can, if you want and to avoid this problem, download the WordPress app plus create yourself a Gravatar profile (it’s all free), then have access to my site via the app. Quicker, uses much less data, and you shouldn’t have problems with receiving updates.

I’m not much of a contributer this week…so glad you liked the cute little easter egg buns I sent. 😉 Busy, busy, busy Easter week….I am still enjoying my Cocky Bastard with his fainting goat. Both are just toooooo cute. I wasn’t put off in the beginning like some were, I’ve loved him all the way through. Now that Easter doings are past….I’m going to find out if Aubrey is smart enough to make the RIGHT choice!! If she doesn’t, I’ll be out right next to the goat!
Best picture of Jamie ever!!! He is best when he looks the moodiest.

The Rock Chick books are fun reads, nothing to stress you out ….impressed you are on book 7! One of the books (can’t remember which one) had a scene that gave me the best belly laugh I’ve ever enjoyed while reading. It was in one of the later books, so maybe you are coming to it.

LOL! Nothing to be impressed about, number 7 is my first whirl with Rock Chick. I like her books, but her style is very distinctive. I can only read a book of hers at a time then I have to move on. Thought I’d try a book from this series, see how it differs from the Unfinished Hero series 😉

Good point….if we’re all reading the last Crossfire next week – I’m going to refresh on them too. That last book was distinctly unmemorable and unsatisfying, so I’ll skim back through it to refresh the story line. Really hoping she does justice to Gideon with this one.

MAC and Sharon, I’m halfway through book 2 of Crossfire and I’ve noticed something very interesting. Seems Sylvia updated her series and in that took the word “p@ssy” out and instead replaced it with “cleft”. Considering the slew of genre specific books copying Erika’s softer vejayjay language, I find it intriguing that despite the tremendous similarities between Crossfire and FSOG, Sylvia took a step closer still. Did you guys notice?

You know, it did catch my attention….but I didn’t know why. Did you remember she actually used p*ssy? I would never have realized that was it.
I am LOVING being back in the land of Gideon!!

Cleft??? What the hell is a cleft?! Yeah the more I hear about Crossfire books I think I made the correct choice to stop after book 1 lol cleft I’m assuming this is what she says instead of hairy mary ill stick to that lol

            Like

            • Monique Lain says:

LOL! Yes, cleft: a space or opening made by a cleavage, a split. It works in the context, Katherine, I just feel it’s overused right now. She seems to have done away with p*ssy entirely, but still uses c@ck and c@nt. So not sure exactly how that softens the language… Though, it has to be said that only Gideon uses the c@nt word.
I’m still utterly besotted with this story and especially with Gideon. The story REALLY comes into its own from book two. Like you, initially I was horrified with the similarities, but since then, having read sooooo many books based on FSOG, I’m finding that aspect way less distracting and I can see the story for what it is. I STILL love it. I’m just hoping book five is gonna’ bring it!

Observant lady!! Yes indeedy in book 1 Gideon is the dirty talker and now that I am skipping over into Book 2 I was thinking do you think she used “cleft” cause its is snobbier?? Like the word itself does nothing for arousal cause it just reminds me of the music “clef” or “cleft chin” I know different but still in my head all the same!! Gah
Do agree that I love love Gideon 💋 His crudeness, how he takes what he wants but also seeing him abit vulnerable with Eva makes me like him all the more. I am going to be so beyond peeved if her last book does not deliver!! One more week girls and we are all starting together?? Date is April 5??

I’m guessing she was guided by her publishing house to bring it in line with the whole “good girl naughty books” movement, perhaps to broaden the appeal.
