Between the covers book club

Hello, lovely ladies 😉

How are you this fine weekend? Here in Aussie we’re enjoying a long weekend. Yay! I vote for permanent 3 day breaks. Whaddaya say, girls?

And as it’s almost Remembrance Day (or ANZAC Day here in Aus), let’s take a moment to think of the brave souls that defend and protect the liberties we so enjoy.

As far as I know, not much is going on in our FSOG universe at the moment. If you come across something juicy, please feel free to share.

BC

Let’s look at my reading week….

h d

So, I finally bit the bullet and finished Hush by E. K. Blair, book three in the Black Lotus series. I can honestly say that I’m happy to be done with this one. The writing is good, and the storyline is certainly meaty, but I cannot say that I actually enjoyed reading it. The dreadful premise is so heart wrenching and, at times, very graphic. By book two it got so much that I wondered why the author bothered to keep the main character going. I would have written her straight out of her misery. Luckily, book three wasn’t quite as harsh, but the twist at the end was… interesting. Not that it was a great, big shock, I’d often wondered if this particular tale would deliver a HEA. If you’re into dark reads, you might want to take a peek at this one.

Dirty by Kylie Scott, book one in her new series, Dive Bar, was the complete opposite to Hush. I LOVED it. Again, this came as no surprise considering how much I adored the Stage Dive series. And colour me happy: my fav from book two, ADD drummer, Mal Ericson, put in an appearance along with new-story hottie, Vaughan who’s now made it onto my book boyfriend list. It was a great read. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series brings. As a side note: these books can be read as stand alones.

Currently I’m reading:

rc

Rock Chick Regret by Kristen Ashley, book seven in the Rock Chick series. This is my first forray into the Rock Chick saga, though I’ve read other books by Kristen. I have to say, so far, it feels quite different from her previous stories. I’m curious to see how it pans out.

Here’s a little something I saw on Facebook that I think most women will relate to:

Ain’t that the truth? LOL!

I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend, lovelies. Remember to check in and share your best reads with us!

    Hi Monique,
This week I read Logan Kade by Tijan it was ok nothing to write home about though probably a little young for a “mature real woman” lol
I’m currently reading Calico by Carrie Hart now this I’m really enjoying I’m about 89% in and although there are some dark parts its more about second chances oh and the sex is hot though not too much in it which I sometimes prefer recently I’ve felt a lot of the books I’ve been reading are all sex and no substance.
I am definitely going to download Dirty I could really do with starting a series.
    Have a great week

I hear you on the appropriate and relatable books for a (mature) REAL woman, Kath. 😉 And I checked out Calico by Callie Hart. That looks hella’ interesting. Perhaps I’ll go there next. Thank you for the rec. And yes, I so agree, the sex-to-story ratio is oh-so-important. It can spoil a good read if there is too much. Hope you enjoy Dirty. Did you read the first series? Stage Dive? The only problem with starting Dive Bar is that we have to wait for the following books to be released… 😝

LOL! From what you wrote you seemed to understand my comment just fine. Perhaps I missed something? LOL!
Scott’s previous series, Stage Dive, is a great series. Rock band with each artist getting his own book as they find love, but despite it featuring younger characters I found, for once, they did not make me feel old. Writing is good, great balance between story and heat, but also relaxing and fun. They are great all-rounder books, Kath. Let us know how you go!

  2. Hi Monique,
    hope you are doing fine.
I have been waiting for the release of Dirty and finally when i got it, i got my final exam’s date. Now I’ve gotta wait for a week to read it 😦 It’s so distracting, especially, after hearing your thoughts on it.
Gotta keep calm and not think dirty.
Between Mal is my favorite too!

I am, Mariana. Thank you for asking. Oh dear! You are a very brave woman! I would have worked out some sort of reading reward system for myself if I were in your shoes. For every hour studied, ten pages of Dirty… Good luck though. I hope you ace it and can then happily fall into Vaughan’s arms. Enjoy it when you finally get to relax and read. Yessss, Mal is AWESOME! Cheeky stud muffin! 👍🏻

Hi Monique. Hope you’re well. I’ve just finished the Corps Security series by Harper Sloan. I enjoyed them immensely. A few laughs and some sad moments but great stories and very likeable characters. Next on my reading agenda is the manwhore series. I’ve heard a lot of good reviews so I hope I will enjoy these books too. Thanks for sharing all you photos Monique. They’re always very entertaining. Have a great week ladies

I am, Carmela. Thank you for asking. I checked out Sloan on Goodreads, added it to my list, but like I told you when you first mentioned the series, I get put off if even the blurb has spelling/gramma issues. How was that part in the end? Is the writing good? I have mixed feeling about the Manwhore series. I loved Malcolm, but Rachel, the female character? First time ever I found a book character that was, for me, completely unrelatable. All I wanted to do was hit her over the head with a stick. I don’t believe that I’m one of those folks who need to love EVERY character in a book, and more, I realise that the personalities are created to create drama and tension, but this chick? I. Could. Not. Stand. Her! LOL! Let us know how you go. Evan hit it out of the park with the first two of the Real series, but with Manwhore, not so much. And I had super high hopes….
Glad you enjoyed my cowboy line. Makes for a lovely visual, right? 😉😉

I have not read the stage dive series, so starting with Dirty and may work my way back to stage dive while waiting on the Dirty follow up! Can’t wait to meet Mal and Vaughn! Forewarning my fave BBF’s that the lineup might have to take a shuffle!
Love the stud pix wearing proper jeans. Do boys not realize the importance of showing a nice tush? My hubs has a really great backend and I’ve enjoyed watching it for 32 years. I’ve told him he would be in big trouble in prison, so to behave himself! Is there any girl anywhere that actually thinks the sagging pants are even remotely attractive!? Crazy!
My reading has been unworthy of sharing…..not hot at all. Looking forward to changing that up this week!

Stage Dive is a lovely series, Sharon. A rock band with each member getting their own book as they fall for their respective lovely ladies. I adored them all, but book two, Play, was my fav. I can see she’s going to do the same with Dive Bar, already we have a great string of hotties lined up looking for love. Yay!
And I’m so with you on the sagging pants. I don’t care how hot a guy is, falling off jeans is NEVER a good look. Yay for having a hubby with a delectable backside. He’s a keeper! 😉

Why don’t you start the Rock Chick series at the beginning with Rock Chick. Not sure why you would want to start a series or jump in near the end of it. You get to know the characters so much better from the beginning of it. I totally loved the series!!

    HI .
Here is Southern Oklahoma the weather is warming up and we have a very high chance of tornado and large hail tomorrow. My cellar is ready to go. Its shorts and flip flop weather.
I am still reading the Alluring Indulgence series by Nicole Edwards. Finished “Braydon” and 3/4 away through “Sawyer”. Each book is about one of the 7 Walker brothers, who all were tight blue jeans, cowboy boots and hats. I sure their asses looks like the picture you posted. Living in a part of the US where most men wear jeans and boot everyday I get to see a lot of tight asses. To bad it not in good taste to go up a pinch those cute asses. I love this series because each brother has his own love interest and the way they love. M/M, M/F/M, M/F and the love of a understanding family.

I tried to read E.K. Blair first book and only made it 1/4 of the way through. Just not my kind of read unless I wanted nightmares.

I also read “The Confession”. As much as I loved the Original Sinner series I thought “The Confession was just so so. It was like having someone retell you a story you just read. Nothing to excieting. But I did find a new word and meaning to the word I didn’t know. “SNOWBALLING” and that Tiffany is a switch.

I have one more book to finish in the Alluring Indulgence seriese then I’m off the Crossfire. Getting so excieting.

Also enjoying lots of fanfiction. There is a new facebook page for FSOG complete fanfiction stories. Some really good ones.
    Have a great week.

Hi Crystal. How are you? Recovering, I hope. Great to hear from you and please, stay safe.
I love a good M/M/F book is ALL it’s glorious variations, and I think perhaps you should snap some pics of hot buns for us in Oklahoma, girl! 😉
I don’t blame you for giving Blair the skip. It gave me nightmares.
Oh my on the “snowballing”. Personally, not my thing, but each to his own… And yeah, I agree, Confessions was a little on the light side. I’m curious to hear your thoughts on Crossfire.
Are you an admin on the FSOG Facebook page? Will you please share the name with us? I used to be part of the original FSOG Gan Fic writer’s page. Do you know if that is still going?

Yeah, we take ANZAC very seriously here. The ceremonies, especially the dawn ones, are beautiful and poignant. And it’s wonderful to hear you had a good time on our island continent.
