Between the covers book club

Hello, lovely ladies đŸ€—

A lovely sunny weekend here in Aus, already H.O.T. considering it’s still Spring. Not that I’m complaining. Bring on summer!

As far as I can tell, not much is happening in our little world ATM. And the movie’s release still feels so far away. *sigh* What are we going to do with ourselves until then? Oh, I know! We’ll READ! Yay! âŁïž

And seeing as the world is colored in pumpkins, spooky apparitions, and spiderwebs, I can share this cute little pic from Sharon…

trick-or-treat

LOL! 😂

Speaking of Sharon, she had a nothing-short-of-a-magnificent-time at her Author weekend! The lucky lady got to meet (and take a seflie with Tiffany Reisz), got some off-the-hook goodies, and sounds genuinely giddy for making the effort to go. I’m soooooo jealous! Here’s a pic she snapped for us of C.D. Reiss doing the whole book signing thing. #SomeGirlsHaveAllTheLuck

Thank you for sharing your fun trip with us, girlfriend! 😉

This week I read:

tps rss45

Twisted Palace by Erin Watt, book three in The Royals series was a deliciously satisfying ending to this entertaining trio. First love, four ripped brothers, ALL the drama money can buy, and a man coming back from the dead… What more can a girl want?

And in keeping with the royal theme, Royally Screwed by Emma Chase, book one in the Royally series, was a classic tale re-spun. And a great job she did of it too! No girl would mind Prince Nicholas showing up in her diner…

Currently I’m reading:

cbr hht

Control, Burn, and Resist, books three, four, and five in the Songs of Submission series & Blaze – Her Halloween Treat by Tiffany Reisz, book one in the Men at Work series. I’m looking forward to seeing how Tiffany handles a story that seems less meaty than her usual epic yarn.

On my shelf I have:

scd tg

Sing, Coda, and Dominance by C. D. Reiss, books six, seven, and eight in the Songs of Submissions series & The Goal by Elle Kennedy, book four in the Off-Campus series.

Then, with the arrival of the end of October, it’s time to look at what new and delightful books we’ll see in November…

Happy weekend, girls.

Hi Monique and ladies. Hope everyone is well and enjoying their weekend. Not much happening on the reading front this week. I read wild card by Lora Leigh and talk about emotional. I cried so much that as I am very emotional at the moment I have to take a break for a few days before I start the next book in the series. This was really an awesome book – very intense, full of suspense, lots of romance and most importantly love. Falling in love with these characters is so easy and you are captured from the very first chapter. If anyone has a chance to read these books be prepared with lots of tissues because they are, to me, heartbreaking but I still could not put the book down. Enjoy your week beautiful ladies

Hi Carmela. Wild Card is great. Lora Leigh is a great, reliable author. I love her style. I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling a bit emotional. Part of being a woman, I guess. If you’re looking for something lighter, I thoroughly enjoyed Royally Screwed this week. Prince Nicklaus makes a yummy book boyfriend 😉 Hope you feel better soon! đŸ‘đŸ»

    Hi Monique and ladies,
Sharon’s trip looks amazing lucky girl!
So this week I read Resist and Sing from the Songs of Submission Series, I thought it was the end but when you get to the end of a book the next in the series pops up, on my kindle it was Coda which seems to be Jonathan and Monica’s epilogue Dominance didn’t make an appearance so ill need to go back and check that out.
I really enjoyed this series my only gripe is that instead of 9 books it should have been about 3 but in saying that I am going to check out more of the authors work.
On another note tried to buy a book on Amazon US but it kept directing me to the UK site so I’ll need to have another look at that.
    Have a great week everyone

Hi Katherine! 😉 I’m so glad you’re enjoying CD Reiss. From what I can tell, apparently this series is her best work. Her writing is excellent, don’t you think? And I so agree with you in the 9 book thing. It’s so silly. What’s the point? The top girls can charge top dollar and we’ll happily pay. I honestly don’t see why you’d break a book into so many pieces. 😜 As far as Amazon is concerned, you actually have to change the settings from your UK site to the US from your account settings. If you Google ‘swopping counties on Amazon’ it should show you where on the site you can do that. By the same token, if you end up not liking the US site, you can always swap back. But truthfully, it’s bloody awesome. Soooo much more to offer. Have a good one, girlfriend 😘

So I found Dominance ÂŁ43.00 in hardback!!
I had to buy the 3 books in order to get it, a bit of a pain as I had already read Sing and bought Coda 😕 usually I would get a message to say I’d already purchased a book must be different as it’s a box set

Nooo! That’s so expensive! I just bought the thee Kindle books bundled together off the US site for $4.85! Sing, Coda and Dominance all in one. Here’s hoping you love them, Katherine. 😉

    First…where was that author’s meeting?

This week, I interrupted the second trilogy of Songs of Submission (Burn, I think) to read a library book: Tara Sue Me’s newest, The Claiming. OMG was it unnecessary to read. The book is was a f/u of a previous book that dealt very well with previous injury and healing (emotional stuff) and explained slave training (D/s 24/7).. But this was a 92pg novella which did not have to exist. She’s written it all in other books…a complete repeat. This is when I think an author gets to be a piggy. Here’s my Amazon review:
Sorry, Tara Sue (or Tara?), you struck out on this one. Yes, Sasha and Cole were a great read in their previous book, but this novella is a slapdash job that doesn’t add anything new to your books or characters. Disappointing and (horror!) grammatical errors and editing errors. Add enough implausibility….a just move in gigantic estate w/o help? And going to be there for just a week? Entrance of ex-non-girlfriend is exceptionally weak. And there’s only five hour difference between the UK and Wilmington. So if they go to bed at 10:30PM and the phone rings from a real estate agent…it’s only 3:30AM in the UK. Really? A little more attention to detail…oh, and a non-reworked plot would be lovely too.

Okay…end of rant. So went back to Burn when I got notified of CD Reiss’ newest release (10/22), Marriage Games, which must be what she was signing at that author’s meeting. It’s book one of two, with the second due in Jan or Feb, I think. Just a few chapters into it and clearly going to be another interesting, thoughtful piece. She writes about the struggles of doms and submissives in such an excellent way with the characters really reacting to the situation rather than having just a cookie cutter plot w/ interchangeable people (which can be fun candy too but sometimes you want some meat…is that a pun?)

Okay, one last thing about how she sliced up her books from the perspective of having acquired them several years ago. It appears she was self publishing and putting sections into other peoples’ anthologies. As she took off, she apparently had to repackage. Coda is part of Dominance…or the other way around. I always got confused and had to write to her to ask her what I was missing.

After, Submission, there are the two series about two different sisters of Jonathan. And she just came out w/ the third sister’s stand alone…which made me re-read the whole Submission series b/c you see it in a difference light. Of the two sisters’ stories, I liked the Perdition series more than the Corruption series, but nothing wrong w/ the writing or plot or anything of Corruption. I’ve enjoyed all her stand-alones too.

And, my weekly report on non-genre: the newest Ann Patchett, Commonwealth. Excellent as all her stuff is. Finished Tom Jones for a book club…amazing what was written in 1759!! Fun!

    Gotta go,
    Lissa

Hi Lissa. đŸ€— It’s so disappointing when you look forward to a book and it turns out to be a dud. I read Tara Sue Me’s first series, the FF she published from FSOG, but it never grabbed me.
As far as the author meet and greet is concerned, I think it was a Comicon-type thing Sharon attended. It was great fun apparently, and very well attended. Hopefully she’ll give us some feedback when she checks in. She had a ball.
CD Reiss is definitely on my fav authors list now. I adore her smart writing. I’ll be reading more of her work in the future. I’m curious to see what she does with a stand-alone. Thanks for checking in 😉

So….here is Sharon checking in. Enjoying a lovely vacation among lovely fall leaves…of which we get very few in Florida. Will be heading back to the palm trees this weekend, and hope to get back on track with my reading.
The Shameless BookCon was held in Orlando. It was the first of many, I suspect, as it was extremely well attended and very well run. There were over 100 authors, with an amazing day dedicated to Tiffany Reisz, who is absolutely my fave storyteller. The whole BookCon came about as the Shameless group was trying to get Tiffany to come to Orlando, promised her a dedicated day, and the rest of the event followed. Tiffany was charming, entertaining, naughty and fabulous. She brought proof copies of a book scheduled to be published next year. If you’ve read her Sinners series, you know her female protagonist, Nora, is a naughty romance writer. The book, Red, is “Nora’s” first book, being published for our pleasure! Tiffany promises it to be major pornographic! What a clever concept….and what a special treat for those of us attending Tiffany’s day. There was no time for long personal conversations, but time for a hug, a pix, and signings. Tiffany read a portion of The Mistress to us, and a portion of a short story featuring our favorite sinners that is in process. It was an Awesome Day!!
Attendees came from Australia (hint hint to Monique), Iceland, Brazil, England, Canada, and all over the US. There are many similar events all over….find one closest to you and make it happen. Met C.D. Reiss, Alice Clayton, Alessandra Torres, Helena Hunting, Meredith Wild, RK Lilley, Christopher Rice…..the list goes on in a big way. Just amazing and so wish I had all of you there to share the fun!
Currently, reading the Siren again….trying to satiate my Tiffany fixation. Have to say, I lurve that woman!! Amazing that this was her first book, and to think of the depth of story that follows in the seven successive books. She wrote the Siren while living in a friend’s closet for six months. The first draft had no romance, and her editor suggested that if she added some, she might actually sell a few copies. Good suggestion, I do believe.
Anyway…I could go on and on. Hope you each find a BookCon that you can go and enjoy!

    Hi LOGS…
So jumped head, feet and body first i to the CD Reiss series along with by peeps… I bought the set that had all the stories 1-8 and I could not stop reading. It is all you said and more. As I got to the end of Book 8, not wanting to spoil any surprises as everyone catches up… I have to say that I was emottionally tied to the characters and the story was a great swerving tale, but now at the end it was sorta left ummmm…. Not sure. Ladies? So I tried to get i to Coda but was quite confused as to why these books were like put together pieces of her past writings. So Coda is dominance but not really cause it has a bonus in it?? I will never understand why an author chops everything up, other than for money because this was a great read… I tried the sample of Coda and thought really… Do I need to spend another 4.00 or can I be happy with Jonathan and Monica as they ar at the end of his ordeal. GAH, whats a woman to do??
Can my ladies help me with a book…it is…something about horizon and a lady walking towards it?? Not able to find it so I maybe its not out yet? But if anyone knows the title can you shoot it to me.
I a. In a perfect quandry as to wear to head next… I have Kaufman from Nicole not started yet. I downloaded the CD Reiss Marriage games sample…anyone read that yet?

Nappy reading and pass them on!! 💋😎

Ooohhh, I’m so stoked you enjoyed Songs of Submission, girlfriend! So good (and HOT) 😉😉 I’m into Coda now and, in the trilogy I’m reading, it’s placed before Dom. I’m gonna be hella pissed if Dom is simply a repeat of Dom with extras! The bundle I bought is marketed as book 7, 8 & 9. So that’s what I’m expecting. I’ll let you know when I get there. Perhaps, if Lissa or Kereny gets to read this they can shed some light? I better start managing my expectations, huh? I also see a few shorts in the series. Have you ventured to any of those?
As far as new reads are concerned, I LOVED Royally Screwed, sweet and sexy, but by no means a saga to sink your teeth into. If you don’t mind younger love, check out The Royals by Erin Witt, a 3 book series I enjoyed, but nothing as intense as CD Reiss. Lovely hearing from you 😘

I am afraid that Coda is just gonna be a let down. So goinna wait for you…yes I am throwing you under the reading bus!! I do not usually go for the shorts cause they piss me off. Its like they lift something out of the main book and transfer it into a short. Some of those Kenner books did that with all the series she wrote. I end up feeling jipped so if one of my beloved LOGS says hey get it…its amazballs then of course I will jump immediately!!!!!! 💋
Did you remember anything about the new book with “the girl walking towards the horizon”?? Mad I cannot remember it to locate it on any app.
Let me know how the “wheels on that bus” are going for ya on Coda and you are right I would be hella pissed if that dom turns out to be dom with a bonus scene!

Mac, there is The Last Girl by Joe Hart. The cover has a girl walking into the horizon from the Dominion Trilogy. But it doesn’t sound like a romance. Is your book in our genre?

Hi again, girlfriend. 😉 I’ll happily rummage under busses if it means finding book treasures…. I just finished Coda and Dominance and there’s no overlapping parts. I think Coda is a pretty great epi even though it was written after the shorts that make up Dominance. I think you would have enjoyed it most if you read it after Sing, but it is a worthwhile part of the story. Good closure.
I have absolutely no idea about the ‘girl walking towards the horizon’ book, sorry. Was it something I posted? 😘

I will finish up Coda then. Yes the book was on one of our facebook posts… Our genre has a girl walking towards the horizon and that word is in the title…but I guess if it was that good I would be able to find it. Maybe I made it up!! OMG am I seriously making up books in my head now… I am going to need a LOG intervention if this keeps up. ⛓⛓

And it happens to me too! Making up book covers in my head by merging two!!! LOL! I’m a little relieved that I’m not the only one. Hope you find it, girlfriend. I’ll certainly be on the look out for you! 😘
