Between the covers book club

Hello there, ladies đŸ€—

So? How many times have you watched the new trailer by now? See anything you love/hate? The Laters, Baby! site posted these (and more on their page) great new stills for us to moon over.

Fifty Shades Darker Fifty Shades Darker

Fifty Shades Darker

Personally, the scene where Christian breaks down, finally offering himself to Ana’s touch, is the one I look forward to seeing the most:

In other movie news this week, Taylor Swift dropped a hint that saw the Twittersphere explode. Marie Claire picked up the story of Darker’s newest song: Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik’s duet, I Don’t Want To Live Forever.

I found this lovely pic with the song lyrics on Facebook. Seems pretty fitting, huh?

And, if you still want MORE of Christian, Funko Pop! just launched their Christian Grey doll. These figurines are usually reserved for superheroes and the likes, but I guess, to us, CG is exactly that!

Adorable! 😉

Then, Sharon sent me this: Buzzfeed shares more cringe-worthy sex scenes hailing from the written word. Again I selected my favourite…

bad-sex

Eeeeeeeek! 😂

Before I start with my reading week, and in keeping with my current festive season theme, I thought I’d share a little bit of what Christmas is like for us here where we NEVER see snow (or even cold) in December:

“Bro’s glistening… ” Whahahahaha! 😂😂

This week I read:

wns

Womanizer by Katy Evans, book four in the Manwhore series, I gave a reluctant three stars. Following her recent, renewed success with Mr. President, I was very disappointed in the not only the shoddy editing (again), but the lacklustre story. This whole series, so far, has been a miss for me. 😔

Currently I’m reading:

br sg

Breathe by Kristen Ashley, book four in the Colorado Mountain series & ShutterGirl by C. D. Reiss, book one in the Hollywood Project series.

As no Christmas is complete without Santa, I reckon Charlie would make a pretty good one…

😋

That’s all from me, girls. Let’s talk books and movie!

    Hi Monique and ladies,
Last week I read Risk by Deborah Bladon, a standalone full length novel which I really enjoyed and would recommend. I also read Managed, thanks for the rec Monique, I loved everything about this. It has been my favourite book in a while, the banter and the chemistry between Sophie and Gabriel was sooo good and how can you not love a hot man with this fabulous name 🙂
I am currently reading Incredible You by Lili Valente, good so far I’ll know better as I get into it.
Thanks for the review on Womaniser, saved me ÂŁ2.99 🙂 I really thought after the delight of Mr President she had got her groove on again……obviously not lol!.

The cringe worthy “sex scenes” are getting worse……………..really who reads that stuff?, the book would be abandoned if I was reading that 🙂
Monique, I really couldn’t imagine Christmas in the sun, I adore wrapping up like an Eskimo on Christmas day and going a (short) walk to digest the dinner then coming home to a wee hot whiskey before the next round of food!

Sharon, the Christmas markets in Berlin were amazing, they looked like how I would imagine an Austrian village at Christmas, so much to buy and see, after dark the amazing beer tents opened and the music starts, They also have ice rinks and toboggan runs so are quite big. I would definitely recommend you go there if you ever get the chance.
BTW there are 250 of them (according to our tour guide) in the Berlin so you are really spoilt for choice.
Have a great week ladies x

Aww, I’m so glad you enjoyed Managed. Didn’t she develop his character beautifully? And yes, Womanizer was a sad disappointment. I had the exact same thought, that Katy is back in the game, but honestly, she should seriously review her editor’s role.
I LOVED the funny sex scenes. Hysterical! Sharon spotted well.
I can’t imagine a white Christmas, Katherine. Or being cold. But I think it would be fun, at least once, to celebrate Christmas like that. Perhaps not so much the cold, but the snow. Not sure how I’ll manage to have one without the other! LOL!
Wow, sounds like some seriously lovely entertainment for your hubby’s BD. A beautiful way to mark the occasion. Thank you for checking in, Katherine 🙂

Thx for the rec for Managed…really does sound sweet. Do you have to read the first one before Managed?

Really enjoyed the “winter” in NZ. Since I’m starting to pack to go there in January, it’s hard for me to squeeze my head into thinking warm. Just got back from bitter temps in NYC and right into a horizontal rain storm here in Jerusalem.

Comment on the crazy sex scene writing. Just remembered that the selection from the Book of Numbers by Joshua Cohen made me think of something I should share. The book apparently is on the top ten list of several outlets this year…it’s a dense Life with the Internet kind of book…very artistic apparently. The sex scene I realized is a take-off or permutation of the sexual verses from the Biblical book Song of Songs. That book was flat out genre (yes!!!) of 2000-2500 years ago and was so popular the powers that be were forced to include it in the canon of the Old Testament….altho they had to reinterpret it as the relationship between Gd and His people. Umm…yeh, right. So it’s bad sex writing…but with a source and a purpose.

Trailer Part Deux…what can I say? My husband is now clucking every time I open it to watch it. And I won’t be able to see it when I’m in OZ when it comes out (unless you want to invite me along, Monique) so now I’m trying to coordinate seeing it Feb 15 or 16, the day after the flight in to NYC from Sydney. I will be sooo behind the eight ball at that point (oh, cute FSD reference) and will be dying to see the movie after everyone else has seen it three times. Hmmm…maybe I can tell my daughter that I’m going into Manhattan to see a show….Hmmm.

        Looking forward to Sunday’s “episode”.

Hey Lissa, nope, you don’t HAVE to read the first, but it was nice to meet the main character of Managed in the first book, to get to know him as this uptight, grumpy guy, and then to see him develop in book two. I love her writing. Book one was also very good. It would be no hardship to read that also.
Yeah, I know what you mean with struggling to pack for a different climate when you’re in another. But NZ is quite a bit cooler than we are, even in summer.
And? Have you read it, The Book of Numbers? I have a severe aversion to pretentious books, even if they are in our genre. Is this one of those? It does sound interesting, though.
And you are SO welcome to join me to watch the movie!! Goodness, as it is I find it very hard to find a true fan to join me. I might have to take my hubby!!! LOL! If you’re in Brisvegas at the time, let me know!

Hi Monique and ladies. I’m so excited about everything fifty shades and can’t wait for the next movie that I’ve actually booked for February for myself and 17 friends to sit in luxury once again and see our favourite couple on the big screen. Loving all your posts Monique so keep them coming. Currently I’m reading black jack by Lora Leigh and I’m enjoying this series very much. Enjoy your week

Wow – the Christmas markets sound completely amazing. Someday…..
Those erotic writing examples are too funny – and actually published! “there she would be, staring down at him, her black pupils gyroscopically inert.” Tooooo much for this girl. Who would ever use the word gyroscopically in an erotic novel…and couldn’t you be more creative with it if you had lost a bet and were forced to use it? There are lots of things that could be gyroscopic other than pupils. Kind of boggles the mind.
Fighting with the Cold from Hell, so ready for it to do what it needs to do and DIE!! In the meantime, read “The Will” by Kristin Ashley. Enjoyed it, can’t say it made it to my “Kristin Favorites” list, but a good solid read, with a yummy fighter…..reading book two now, expecting the same, including a different fighter. Still have Idol waiting for me, but wasn’t quite ready for it. Will be after this KA book.
Those Pop dolls are really cute….and I’ve resisted them but see they are a very hot collectible. Christian Grey? maybe I won’t resist that one. We’ll see. I hadn’t spotted the touching scene w/Christian and Ana on the floor. Sigh…..I’m soooo going to love this movie. Obviously, since they didn’t consult me, it won’t be perfect….but I’m still gonna loooooove it!!!!

Is just too perfect. I’ve been very slow on my reading recently, life is getting in my way but I’m going for three free weeks so if I’m not drinking I hope to read a lot… Lol…
A big hug for you my friend!
