Between the covers book club

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

What’s new in your world? Nothing much happening in mine at the moment, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. No news is good news, right? 😉

This week I got a hilarious link from Sharon: Boredpanda feature REAL couples recreating cheesy romance novel covers. Too damn funny! I especially like this one with the unicorn in the background!

Kinda’ reinforces the need for tanned, ripped bodies, huh? 😂😂

She also shared this astoundingly hypnotic clip. It’s super weird, but damn, I can’t help staring at it.

I’m not sure if it’s hot or disturbing! 😝 If the link is not working for you, you might need to sign in to Facebook to see the video.

This week I read:

Vicious by L. J. Shen, book 1 in the Sinners of Saint series was great, exactly what you’d expect from this gritty writer, but therein also lies the problem. Some authors have SUCH a distinctive style, such type-cast characters, that despite their books being awesome, you can only read them in small doses. Do you find the same thing? Kristen Ashley is another I could pick out in a book line-up without missing a beat. Great writing but recipe bound.

Real Dirty by Meghan March, book 1 in the Real Dirty Duet series was so good I jumped straight into book 2, Real Sexy. The range is well written and has a good story, it’s sexy and plausible. And if the words don’t do anything for you, I bet the big boy on the cover will! You gotta’ love a bad boy turning good for the love of his life. 😋

Currently I’m reading:

The Farthest Edge by Kristen Ashley, book 2 in the Honey series and Undeniably You by Jewel E. Ann.

On my shelf I have:

All I Am, Drew’s Story by Jodi Ellen Malpas, book 3.5 in the This Man series. I’m curious about this one. The way I understand it it’s technically NOT about Jesse and Eva, but has Jesse doling out advice to Drew. Though it is a novella it’s a pretty meaty one from a page count point if view. Let’s hope she brings back some of that Jesse magic!

Let me leave you with another import, again compliments of Sharon. She does a stellar job of keeping me stocked in entertaining (naughty) goodies! 😘

Oh my….

Happy weekend, lovelies!

Hi Mon and ladies, don’t know where to start this week lol.
The real couples made me cringe but on the other hand I think fair play to them for doing it. The video dont really know what that was about 😲
The lion, oh my is all I can say about that!!
So glad you liked the Dirty Duet, I really enjoyed them as well.
So this week I read The Duke of Manhattan by Louise Bay, its was fine and I loved the Duke. I also read Playing the Millionaire by Sandi Lyn, this started of good but ended up being the same old thing, I skipped over the sex mostly it was all the same and just too much of it.
At midnight All I Am arrived on my kindle, I stayed up to finish it. It is the first of her books since This Man that I really liked, I loved having the focus on Drew he is a potential BB and I liked the way we still saw small glimpses of crazy Jessie.
Don’t know what to read next but I’m sure there’s something on my kindle.
    Have a great week x

Hey Katherine. 🤗 Yes, the couple is very, VERY brave to pose for those pics! LOL! I wonder why I never went back to Meghan March. I read her Dirty billionaire trilogy long ago, and from my rating I can see that I liked it, but I never looked at her again. Weird. I started The Exception by Sandi Lynn, but like you I felt it was meh. I didn’t even finish. 😝 Life is too short to read crappy books. I’ll have to check out Duke of Manhattan. Sounds like you picked a winner there, Katherine. Thanks for a great share. Always a pleasure to hear from you, lovely. 😘

Oh no! I had just finally weaned myself from the dough kneading video, now I’m hypnotized again! I love that someone even thought of creating this image…..much less took the time to do it!
I’ve read a couple of books not worthy of mention, am currently on a forbidden teacher/student story by Brooke Cumberland called Pushing the Limits. Enjoying it so far, but only a few chapters in. More of a report next week.
And why isn’t Jewel Ann using the cover from Goodreads? That is a great visual cover, much better than the surfboard! I probably will be reading this next week so we can compare reads!
I’ve not read anything by Meghan March, I’ll have to give her a try. Every time I see her name I wonder if she is using The name of the Little Women character intentionally. But I think the fictional character full name was Margaret.
Yes indeed, that is def one luscious lion!! Love a handsome, wild animal! Why am I back to thinking I’m due for a hot shifter read?

Hey Sharon 🤗 IKR? That damn vid!! LOL! Very creative! And who knows why authors change covers? Personally I enjoy recognising a book I’ve read before. Sometimes it seems like they change their covers monthly! 😝 Yes! You must give Meghan a try. I enjoyed this two book series. Thank you for your luscious lion. He is just yummy! I hope you find your next delicious shifter book soon, girlfriend. Have a good one 😘

Literally just watched Antman before reading this post….and found size shifting unpleasantly dizzying. So doubt I’d like to read about hot guy changing into werewolf. Prefer interaction with hot guy where only one body part changes….(blush)
😃😃 but thanks for the info.

LOL! Oh dear, that’s an unfortunate coincidence, Lissa! 😂😂 Sharon and I sometimes have a laugh over some weird shifting books out there. A while ago we giggled over one featuring a koala. I can’t imagine anyone finding that hot, but hey, each to his own! 😉😉

Jacob from Twilight was probably the first shifter character I encountered. Hot ripped guy, is also hot ripped uber protective Alpha critter (wolf most common, but dragons, tigers, bears….whatever) Usually a vampire or two will be in the mix. Dark Protectors by Rebecca Zanetti is a great example. I just find I need to break up the romance genre a bit, so I bounce between our traditional hot reads – and find a gorgeous furry wolfy studmuffin alone and yearning for his one and only true mate! Yeah, baby!! Then I’m back and ready for another young billionaire or two.

Whahaha! Love it, Sharon. Yes, not a Twilight fan but I’m 100% team Jacob! Patterson is too pasty for my liking. He looks like he might break. Skarsgard does pale a million times better. And I’m a 150% Alcide fan! Oh yes, baby! ANYTIME! *where’s that panting emoji?* 😂😂

Hello everyone. Loved the video Monique 😉 I have just finished reading All I Am, Drew’s Story and I thought it was fantastic. I have not read any of JEM’s books since the This Man trilogy, I only read this book because it was sort of continuation of the This Man characters. Happy reading everyone.

I only purchased the book because it was a continuation of the This Man characters and I really loved it. Jesse was mentioned a few times but it was all about Drew, and you forget that there was the horrible Coral in the trilogy.
At the moment I am reading a box set called Fully Cocked (Ten book Romance Set) and it is about chickens, no not really, sorry could not resist that little pun. It was going cheap (no pun intended) for 99p so I thought I would give it a try. The stories are very good, there seems to be sex on every page and every way you can think of. I have read about 4 stories so far and I am getting the ‘same old same old’ when I reading the stores. I am going to leave it for a while and come back to them. Worth all the 99 p and more, each story is written by a different author.

That sounds like a good idea, Sheila. I do the same thing with those cookie cutter style books. No matter how well they’ve written, the do get a little monotonous. The best thing is to not consume them one after the other, then the pattern isn’t so pronounced.
I’m also enjoying Drew! 👍🏻 Loved the first scene where Jesse lost his sh@t over his daughter’s hair! 😂😂 So typical! He’s going to keel over from a heart attack one of these days! Poor sod! 😂

Okay…an actual book report this week. Finished Love, Chloe and realized that I actually enjoyed the whole thing…esp the first half where she kept throwing possible HEA men at you. Ending seemed real, b/c it wasn’t the all around happiness that you wanted…but what happened felt..right.

Also finished Man and Master by Jason Luke. Okay…I was entranced by Interview with a Master. My weakness is totally BDSM training since I’m constantly trying to understand who I am (or who I was) and understand how I think and feel. Since it is beyond unlikely that I’ll ever be in a real training situation again (well, I guess just as likely I won’t have a 5th century Visigoth in my life), reading about it helps me identify my feeling and reactions. And this author is goood doing it.

Now, they say that Jason Luke really is a man, who writes about his own history. But, ladies, who the hell knows who the real authors of anything are these days. I know of an excruciatingly well known writing family who I am convinced (and it’s been hinted at at gatherings) that they write each other’s stuff for a lark..completely different genre each of them too. And I think Lisa Scottoline’s daughter is writing a lot of the stuff under her name too because too many books come out too fast. But back to our genre….I don’t think we know whether it’s a man or woman or a hundred monkeys in a room with typewriters writing what we read. All we know is what we like. And I like Jason Luke’s stuff.

(If you want suggestions outside the genre, I just finished A Man Called Ove and it was uplifting and a funny read…very very well translated from the Swedish). And A Gentleman in Moscow. I absolutely ADORED this book…so much that I’m changing my hotel for my upcoming trip to Moscow from what I had to the hotel the book takes place in. Just started The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane…I love Lisa See’s stuff…great research. End of tangent…thanks, Monique).

And after I take care of a bunch of mandatory library stuff that just came in, plan to dive into The Siren. And absolutely so psyched for it!!
    I know, down girl…enough.

Hey Lissa 👍🏻 I know exactly how you feel about Love Chloe. All things considered it was a good read. Certainly better than her latest offering. I’m STILL irked about the missing 360 twist in that one! 😡
When I read the first two Jason Luke’s I also went on a little author quest. Much as I adore and respect men, generally speaking, they are not that insightful when it comes to the female psyche. I would not be surprised if the writer turns out to be a woman. But like you said, who knows? Spin and marketing, in anything, seems to be the top priority in sales these days. Truth, a very distant cousin. Hopefully it gave you some insight into your being.
A Gentleman in Moscow sounds like an intriguing read, even to me! 😉 Thanks for the share!
I’m so excited for you to start the Original Sinners series. It has REAL BDSM in spades, a stunning story that spans almost the WHOLE of the character’s lives, interesting (sometimes quirky) people that eventually feel like friends because their character development is exceptional, and a back story with drama to spare. And best of all, if you like them, boatloads of books in the series. 🎉 Have a great week, girlfriend 😘

    Okay…a quickie…not that kind.
Where else can I share this?
A friend just contacted me about travel recommendations in Portland…and I had to tell her about the Heathman…and chortled the whole time I was typing. It IS a gorgeous hotel…well, all I saw was the lobby and bar but it’s in the historical registry. They did an injustice in using the Hilton in Vancouver for the movie.

Hi Lovely Ladies!! I just bought “All I Am” cause nothing coming from Jesse can be bad, right?? Its so short I am afraid to start it cause it will be over in a blink. I usually stay away from these novella’s but as I said …who can resist all things close to Jesse.
Just finished “Tycoon” Katy Evans Hmmm… I am kind of disappointed in myself firstly cause this is the author of manwhore…remember the annoying girl Rachel you just wanted to bitch slap!! Well, its not quite the same but jesus she could do so much yet does not. The characters of Aaric and Bryn long lost wanna be lovers…meet now with Aaric a rich take no prisoners tycoon…everywhere but the bedroom! With a bitchy engaged but not in love with fiance whi is screwing his brother ~ Miranda! Now just from that you think you would light that bitch on fire and bring a hot story does not happen! Aaric keeps you in the book but there is no sex, no chemistry like we are used to…okay so now after writing this I know why I am not impressed. Maybe she was not writing an Alpha male story but god she had 4 great possibilities and took none. Book 2 will not be on my list. At some point you have to dive down into your stories and stop skimming over the top… Sorry Katie 3 strikes I am out. Maybe some other ladies will love it!!

Hey girlfriend! Lovey to see you here! 😍 I am loving All I Am but it does go rather quickly. Novellas are the pits! Especially if they are good and all you want is MORE!
Katie got her strike three from me with the sequel to her White House series. There was a brief glimmer of hope with the first book, but the second? Not so much. I’d already decided to give Tycoon a skip, but your review has solidified that decision for me. Thank you! 😘 There seems to be a massive late-or-even-no-sex trend in the genre, which, if you want to be technical, takes the book OUT of the genre…. hmmm. A non genre genre book?? Huh? LOL! I’m down with less is more, but none? I’m not ready to kiss the hot bedroom antics goodbye! 😝 And I buy a book in this genre to be IN the genre! LOL! Sorry. Rant over. Have a beautiful week, lovely. Check out Meghan March’s Real Dirty Duet if you’re in the mood for a nice all round series. 🤗

She is worth every penny. And thank you because you hit the nail right on the head for me….they rate the book as erotica or contemporary 5 star but it is NOT in the genre. Exactly. You gave me my answer as usual. That is exactly my beef!! (Hugs)

Fist bump, girlfriend! 😉 Don’t authors (or publishers) realise that we buy a previously read writer’s work with certain expectation? Apart from the quality of the writing, which should be good if a book is up for sale, the genre classification MUST be correct! 😜
