This week I read:
The Farthest Edge by Kristen Ashley, book 2 in The Honey series, was good if you don’t mind reading a virtual carbon copy of the first book in the range. Loads and loads of bonking with a female Domme and her alpha sub. Personally I still have an issue with the whole alpha sub concept, but for the sake of the genre, I’ll deal. 😜
Undeniably You by Jewel E. Ann was not for me. I can see the appeal but the flat, juvenile characters, the female protagonist in particular, left me cold. I gave it a reluctant 3 stars simply because the things that put me off are particular to me, not reflective of the book’s quality in general.
All I Am by Jodi Ellen Malpas, book 3.5 in the This Man series was a lovely reminder of why we (well, most of us) loved Jesse and his crazy-assed antics. Despite her recent failure to capture our attention, All I Am was a wonderful glimpse back into beloved characters’ lives. I thoroughly enjoyed emotionless Drew feeling the burn of love. Poor guy! 😂
Currently I’m reading:
The Headmaster by Tiffany Reisz. I’ve got a LOT on my plate this coming week. I don’t know if I’ll have even a moment to spare, but, as always, I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with my girl, Tiff. 👍🏻

I’m the first one? Where is everyone?
Okay…get ready for a rant. Have invested 47 minutes of my life to Twilight, the movie. (That’s right, don’t plan to go on. Pattinson gives me the creeps..and that’s without the makeup. ELJ wanted him for CG? Really?!) Other than the horrid acting, the plot with holes the size of a moon crater, and odd, not believable special effects, I can still look through the mess to extrapolate what the book must have been like. It’s a dysfunctional high school opera on crack. And THIS is the material that ELJ used to launch what was in her imagination? Thank goodness she upped the ages of the main characters. Yes, I see all the same characters and actually was amused by early acting of some actors I very much enjoy now, but the material is juvenile and hardly…gripping. What captured ELJ’s imagination? Well, it doesn’t matter, b/c it did. But I’m done with my Twilight experience. Oh, and the movie made FSOG/FSD look like Citizen Kane. (Forgive me if I offended anyone’s favs).
I did read this week…and Monique and others were right that The Siren, and likely anything Reisz writes, is a keeper. Only 25% in, but the quality of the writing grabbed me right away. Not thrilled with some of the sex/dominance, but that’s more that I compare it to my interests. I still get the expected charge. And I’m finding it a hoot to see the editor make comments about how she should write the book and actually see those suggestions taken up in The Siren. Very happy I finally hit this series!

I’m a little shy to admit that I’ve never read any of the Twilights books, nor did the notion ever grab me, but, like you, I once succumbed to watching one of the movies. What a revelation of WTF moments! LOL! Needless to say, milk white Pat and Co didn’t work for me, I’m team Jacob only if I was forced to choose, and also wondered what Erika saw in the series. I was almost tempted to read the first book so I could understand, but the movie killed the desire so thoroughly that I never did.
I am so happy you are enjoying the Siren! Yes, the relationship between Nora and Soren is a harsh one, the BDSM aspect way harder than what we see in our genre usually, but their love is a thing of beauty. And he is helluva’ creative making her hurt so good. 😉 Like I’ve said before, remember that now you’ve had a tiny glimpse into their world. The more you read, the bigger the picture will get until you stand stunned, marvelling at the stupefying depth of this epic tale.

I thought so, the last book was so intense I had to stop reading because I was afraid to find out what was going to happen…..the books are so much ‘more’ I don’t think you would be disappointed….

I think Robert Pattinson was supposed to be creepy/vampire…..I actually liked him better in New Moon, etc. and some of his later movies…..and I only say RPatz as Christian, sorry, but the more mature Christian, and the Ana, not Kristen for sure…..tired of her sullen pouty expression on her face. I though Dakota played it spot on….just my opinion ….

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree about Kristen. What’s up with her emotionless character? Isn’t the whole thing based on epic, burning love? She almost seemed out of it. Disengaged is the term that comes to mind 🤔

yes, that’s its exactly, and I wanted to slap her in Eclipse. You could already tell she was falling out of ‘lust’ with Rob….it spoiled the movie for me….

The movies were OK, I liked the wolfies best (no surprise), but the fandom for Pattinson & Kristen totally escaped me. I cringed when I read he was Erika’s top choice for Christian. Thank goodness someone talked her out of it!! The books were better for me – but a big part was that neither of them appeared in the books! I hate to say it, but overall I think the twilight movies did a better job of conveying their story than the FSOG movies have. (Perhaps because the FSOG story meant more to me?) I think the intended Twilight audience was teenage, and Erika was motivated to create a more grown-up and hotter version. Which she certainly did as far as I’m concerned!
I don’t know if the man can act….but I would have LOVED to see Brant give Christian a try. Wonder if he auditioned for the role? He sure looks intense enough to be our billionaire!! Certainly looking forward now to seeing Sawyer in the movie, hope they do a little more with him than they have w/Taylor…but I’m guessing there won’t be much with the 2 hour time constraint.
I’ve been working on Undeniably You…I read a chapter or two, read another book, go back and read another chapter or two….and so on. May take me a while but I’ll get through it. Obviously isn’t grabbing my interest yet, though there are some amusing doings. So far the cover Monique shows is my favorite part – and the author changed it!!
I read Deklan by Shay Savage. Delish cover! Story about a crime syndicate hit man and a 20 yr old girl used as a debt repayment. Love the hit man….hot in the sack, and very caring. (oxymoron, I know). The girl has multiple degrees, but keeps making stupid choices that drive me nuts. But I guess even a smart 20 yr old will do that. Overall, I liked the book, it was worth the read. It is a standalone but there is an associated series that I’m probably not inclined to follow.
AND…I read the first book of a shifter series called Nano Wolves several years ago. I liked it but didn’t continue the two other books. For whatever reason, I browsed through the first book again, still enjoyed it, so I’m now in book two and will buy book three!
Read two books of another paranormal series that I won’t even name. It had some good roots to make an interesting story, but I think writer is very young and it became mucho repetitive. Def won’t continue that.

I found the chickie in Undeniably You a cringe-worthy character! I admire authors who can white characters of any shape and form despite how they are and would react personally, but this girl? Touchy, prickly, spoilt, selfish teen, IMHO. 😜

Hi ladies, well this week I read the worst 3 books ever and I use the term books very lightly!. My friend sent them to me with the email heading “Worse erotic fiction ever” and because she paid for them I had to read, OMG I was ready to cut my throat 🙂
They were Used to Satisfy, Forced to Enjoy and Summoned for his Pleasure all by Tanya Colt. They were horrendous the main character was so “wet” she should have been at her OBGYN instead of getting her “clip” sucked and yes I meant to write clip it was mentioned at least 10 times in each book just awful! Did no-one read these books before they were published? I couldn’t even laugh I just wanted to cry.
I then read Hard to Hold by Nicole Edwards, I loved the storyline and the characters, her MMF sex doesn’t really do it for me but I skipped over some of it. If you’re into MMF then I would definitely recommend this book, it has been left with a cliffy so need to wait on part 2.
I’m all sexed out this week so have started a new book not in our genre.
As you know Mon I’m not the biggest fan of Tiffany Reisz but I might have a look at this book, hopefully it’s not all sub/dom sex.

I just booked a holiday to your part of the world today. We were debating returning to New York or Florida hubby adored Florida last time we were there so we’re heading back in January, hope it’s warm 😁

Aliens seem iffy when it comes to the bedroom! 😂😂 Tiffany, as you already know, has my undying devotion, but I get that you can’t see the full glory without the hindsight of the series. The more I read her the more I love her work.

I will wait to see what you think of this book I think you’ll love it but I trust your judgment so if you give it more than 3* I’ll download it for my holiday to sunny Spain on 14th July.
Monique, hubby would love to visit Oz but I couldn’t do that journey without staying at least a month to recover, unfortunately I would never be able to take that amount of time away from home so no Australia for me 😢 The last time we were in Florida it was July and while it was very hot it bloody rained for a week solid. Katherine was not a happy bunny lol

I know what you mean with THE JOURNEY! It is helluva’ far and across an entire day’s time zone, so yeah. It’s rough. It takes me 7-8 days to get over the jet lag when we travel back home. It’s crazy. But the upside is that I’m here! 😉😉 And I can imagine the heat and humidity that comes from rainy tropics. When we lived up north it was like that. Every. Damn. Day! 😜 Hopefully you’ll have better luck this time around! 🤗

Have to comment since I’m a Tiffany newbie. The Siren is not like so many genre books where there’s a little plot sewing together sex scenes. Here there are characters who grab your interest and you want to know their motivation and backstory. Dare I say it, the sex scenes are almost irrelevant. …so much so I think she could insert (bad pun?) an ‘add sex scene here’ and it would still work.
In a way, I think that’s why FSOG worked so well. Yes, the sex scenes were delightful and very new for the time and place but it was the characterization and the consistent onward flow that grabbed you. In the book, you needed Ana’s internal monologue. That’s what couldn’t be translated to film.
Geez…I sound like a university lecturer…lol

LOL! Yes, Lissa. In the Siren specifically I recall feeling the same way about the sex, but as the series continues it takes a different shape and in some books become central to the story. Perhaps not the sex per se but the HOW and the WHY. Then, in others, it comes through the lens in Nora’s writing, eventually culminating in the publishing of Nora’s own book! The Red will be along later this year, but I’ve had the delicious privilege of getting my greedy little paws on a (SIGNED) copy thanks to Sharon and her Book Conning! The characters certainly grab you but as you move along you get to know them SO well that they become like friends. It’s an amazing feat! One I marvel at from a writer’s perspective. I hope you delve more into the range.

Coming to the end of The Siren and have to admit I’d better parse my time with her books or I’ll never come up for air.
But writing because of cute episode yesterday which Siren readers might be amused by. Zooming thru emails and got one from close friend talking about ‘Eleanor but they call her Nora’ and my heart stopped. This is friend who is passionately liberal vis a vis gays and trans rights and acceptance but was squirming when I tried to explain D/s and wiring and me….and I immediately thought OMG…she’s talking about The Siren….I actually got her to read.some genre.
But nooooo, her niece just had a baby…and that was the naming…and noooo. ..this niece is unlikely a genre reader either. She’s more of a Chloe before her parents financial issues😃😃
