Between the covers book club

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

Happy Valentine’s Day! While I love the institution of V-day, I do hope you love your loved ones HARD – Every. Single. Day! 😍

So, by this time, I’m guessing most of you saw the movie. Whatever will be chat about now? LOL! 😂 But despite the proverbial show being over, I do have some news:

Firstly, Susan shared this, a fantastically entertaining review of Darker on Buzzfeed.

Then, I saw some clips on YouTube during the week showing the Easter Egg that came after the credit roll of Darker, but as far as I can tell, they’ve all been removed. I suspect copyright infringements. 😳

Movie Pilot chats about the H.O.T. scenes that ended up on the cutting floor because they were apparently too H.O.TTTTT for the movie going public.

From the 50 Shades of Grey Support page on Facebook I saw an ABNewswire report on the launch of a new book: Fifty Shades Deeper, a book by fans, for fans. If you’re keen to “delve deeper into the messages and insights of the Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy” this might be the read for you.

And lastly, Sharon sent me the following: Cringeworthy Sex Ed Stories, again as featured in Buzzfeed (boy, there are some real winners in there), plus this cute kitty meme in honour of V-Day:

Must’ve been a very naughty kitty! 😂

This week I read:

Raw Deal by Cherrie Lynn, book one in the Larson Brothers series. I read my first book by this author not long after I turned to this genre, and despite having one of the worst book covers I ever saw, I LOVED her story and style. It’s been a long while since I’ve had the pleasure of reading a new book by her, but, I can confirm that I STILL love her writing. I am going to be totally cliched and say that she has a way with words. These may not life changing stories, but consistently good ones with just the right side of yummy.

Currently I’m reading:

Fidelity by Aleatha Romig, book five in the Infidelity series. Let’s hope THIS is the final one. Five books for this particular range is a book or two too much – at least IMHO.

On my shelf I have:

Royally Matched by Emma Chase, book two in the Royally series. I loved the Cinderella-esque nature of the first novel, so I’ve got high hopes for this.

And finally, this week, in the search of the perfect V-day gift for my hubby, I came across this… uhm… practical gift…

Imagine the fun your man could have with this in the shower!! 😂 And I love the “ONE SIZE FITS MOST MEN” disclaimer! 😂

Have a beautiful weekend, girls. Remember to share your loveliest reads with us. 😘

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

Wow! Another crazy week and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. What’s going on? It feels as though someone hit the fast forward button on my life! 😝

The good news is that this coming week is MOVIE WEEK! Yay! 🎉 And with that the Australian movie competition winners! Congratulations to Aussie babes: KATH IMLACH & KATRINA STUBBS! Enjoy the movie, girls. You’ll be hearing from me shortly.

And seeing as we’re chatting about Darker, let’s lay down some ground rules for our debrief next Saturday/Sunday. Though I will be seeing the movie on Wednesday, I will NOT be posting about my experience until the Book Club post that weekend. If you’d like to share something before then, feel free to do so, but please do it privately via my email, Facebook messenger, or Twitter message service. By the same token, if you’re seeing the film some time AFTER next week, please note that the special movie post (that will come with the regular Book Club) WILL BE FILLED WITH SPOILERS. So don’t drop by if you’re not ready to see the movie bones picked clean.

Then, I’m sure I don’t need to remind you, but for the sake of any new readers, please play nicely. We are an extremely varied group, hailing from all over the world, each with different backgrounds and beliefs. Please respect other’s opinions. We don’t all have to agree. I don’t like being a cow, and I very rarely exercise my right to delete a comment, but I will if you don’t share in a kind manner.

Official stuff over, let’s look at some movie news as we race to the big reveal:

Listen to Sia’s Blank Page as featured in Darker:

On Popsugar, see Dakota on The Tonight show doing a Fifty Shades Skit.

Watch Jamie turn Conan’s desk into a pommel horse!

And lastly, on Just Jared, check out Ellen tying up Jamie on the Ellen Show.

And completely unrelated to Fifty, I think I may have found the perfect exercise tool for your man… I challenge you not to laugh!

Oh my! LOL! 😂😂

This week I read:

Love in Lingerie by Alessandra Torre. This writer is amazing in the sense that her books are so varied, her style changing from story to story so that every one feels fresh. This novel was no different. I loved the drawn-out tension between the two main characters, and then the ensuing delicious heat. A great read and a definite thumbs up from me.

On my shelf I have:

Raw Deal by Cherrie Lynn, book one in the Larson Brothers series. I so love a story with a fighting theme.

Ever wondered what Aladdin looks like without his pants?

LOL! 😂😂

Have a wonderful weekend, girls. I’m looking forward to hearing from you and your Darker adventures next week.

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

How was your week? With my hollies at an end, I went back to the ol’ ground stone. Aw well. I guess holidays won’t be as much fun if you didn’t have to slog too. 😜

But I do have some happy news… As you know, I’m seeing Darker on the 8th of February, compliments of Universal Pictures and their Launch Preview here in Brisbane, but this time, they are also offering a fun prize to 2 lucky Australian readers. Yay! 🎉

Up for grabs are 2 double passes (one double pass for each winner) valid at all Australian cinemas screening the Fifty Shades Darker movie from February 9, 2017.

Get your sneaky peeks of the film on the Fifty Shades Movie site.

And if you’re not in the mood for a reread of FSD before it hits the cinemas, let Marie Claire remind you of the best bits. 😋

Before I start with the book club section, I’d like to share a link Sharon sent me.

Love – true, deep, accepting love, is a beautiful thing. Finding the one you’re meant to be with is magical, a thing capable of transforming your life, lifting you up. I may be a little old fashioned, but personally, I like well defined male and female roles. I like to know where I stand in a relationship, and what is expected of me. Beyond that, I want to know that my man burns for me, that he encourages me, wants what’s best for me, but can firmly rein me in when I need to be anchored. In my humble opinion, these traits are what made Christian so appealing. The Elephant Journal features an article extolling the virtues of finding a love like that. The short piece is worth the read, not only to melt your heart, but to remind you that you deserve to be loved – hard.

“Because baby, when you and this warrior of yours meet and collide—it’s going to be a love set on fire.”

This week I read:

Commander in Chief by Katy Evans, book two in the White House series. What a strange book this was. I feel like I somehow skipped the crucial chapters. There seemed to be some sort of buildup, I could sense the author setting it up, but it simply never came. No climax, no pivotal moment, just pages and pages of their life in the White House, glossy overviews of what could have been something. I get that a writer wants to draw a reader to a follow-on book, but why on earth would I read the third? And it’s not even going to be a sequel, but supposedly a standalone, taking place in Matt’s second term, not a continuation of this story. Huh. Like I said, strange.

Currently I’m reading:

Egomaniac by Vi Keeland. I always enjoy her books, and now, 2/3 in, I suspect that this will be another of hers going on my good-book list.

Phew! That was a long one! As always, it is a pleasure sharing with you, girls. And if you’re an Aussie reader, don’t forget to enter the comp!

Monique kiss

Rules: tickets are for use in Australia only. You have to be over the age of 18 to enter. Enter as many times as you like by commenting on any blog post on this site. The competition closes on the 5th of February, 2017. The winners will be announced on this blog. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash. The winners will need to supply a postal address via (private) email in order to claim their prize. The prize is issued by Universal Pictures, and the author/blogger is not responsible for any loss or damage relating to the prize.

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

We are roasting here in Queensland as a sizzling heatwave hit us this last week. And we have yet to see our hottest month! Eeek! 😳

As far as movie news is concerned, in all likelihood, I will be seeing the movie on the evening of the 8th of February.

Not long to go now! ❤️

Entertainment Weekly reports on the release of the Darker soundtrack which promises to be every bit as successful as the first movie’s.

Apparently it’ll be a panty-melter 😉

Then, have you ever wondered what it would be like if the tables were turned for Christian and Ana, with her as the Domme and him as the sub? See this grin-worthy Barbie parody clip for some role reversal giggles…

Cute, huh? 😉

Currently I’m reading:

Commander in Chief by Katy Evans, book two in the White House series. Sadly, so far, this one is dragging on. I fear you we’re right, girls, when you warned me last week, but I’m hoping to push through.

On my shelf I have:

Egomaniac by Vi Keeland.

I don’t know whether this is truth or tale, but I’m guessing you don’t particularly care, right?

LOL! 😂😂

Have a happy weekend, girls!

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

I hope you enjoyed some quality time with your loved ones, and saw the new year dawn with the promise of good things to come.

With just over a month to go until we see the second movie, the countdown is ON! I’m looking forward to the debrief after…

50 Shades Girl Portland shared this great piece: Escala – the changes made to the apartment we saw in Fifty Shades of Grey during the filming of Darker and Freed

This has NOTHING to do with Fifty, but I couldn’t help posting…

LOL! 😂 Is it the perfect gift for hubby, or would you burst out laughing? Making the wolf’s snout shrink and grow will be a LOT of fun, huh? 😉

My holiday was lovely, but jam packed with a gazillion things that I never get to do during the school year. My long list of to-dos is significantly shorter (yay!), but my reading time took a serious dive. Hopefully I’ll get to relax in the final throes of my hollies to meet a few smexy book boyfriends. 😉

These last few weeks I (only) read:

sgs hms

ShutterGirl by C. D. Reiss, book one in the Hollywood Project series, was good. Again she impressed me with the solid knowledge she has of her character’s jobs and backgrounds. It makes for a satisfying read, coloured with the interesting details of their worlds.

Hail Mary by Nicola Rendell was a cute, (very) sexy story. I love a player turning mush for a girl. Thank you for this one, Susan.

Currently I’m reading:

Commander in Chief by Katy Evans, book two in the White House series.

Though it’s almost halfway into the fresh month, here are some of the new books we’ll see in January:

As always, these screenshots are taken from my beloved Goodreads account.

#Truth 😂

That’s it from me, girls. If you’ve come across a beautiful book, this is the place to share. Have a good week!

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

The Christmas countdown is so ON! The stores here are teeming with Chrissy shoppers, merry holiday makers are wearing bright red tans, and depending on where you are in the world, you may have your turkey stuffed, your prawns marinated, or your boerie defrosting. Ahh, happy days. I love the festive season ❤️

Next year, I reckon THIS will be my tree…

#BestIdeaEver 😉

I didn’t come across much Darker news this week, but Universal was kind enough to release these two beautiful movie posters to me:

universal-1 universal-2

They do paint an enticing picture…

This is a fan made trailer, but I appreciate the drama of the opening scenes:

This week my reading was slow going. With all the playdates, Christmas shopping, and long list of to-dos, I’ve had very little time to spend on my favourite hobby, but let’s look at what I did get around to doing this week:

Currently I’m reading:

ShutterGirl by C. D. Reiss, book one in the Hollywood Project series. I’m just past the halfway mark, so progress, but not much.

On my shelf I have:

Hail Mary by Nicola Rendell – thank you, Susan 😉 You can never go wrong with a cover sporting a guy with big balls! LOL! 😂

I don’t know if our US contingent share the Nando’s franchise with us here in Aus, but for in case you don’t, the peri-peri chicken outlet is known for their controversial (but oftentimes, fall-off-your-chair, funny) ads. This one is no exception:

Whahahaha! 😂😂

That’s all for today. I hope you have a good one 😘

Hello there, lovely ladies 🤗

Along with my festive season banner and the start of advent, I thought I’d spread a little Christmas cheer…

Oh my… Santa’s helpers are lookin’ good! 🎄

Then, as we wait for the next trailer, I happened upon this exciting teaser on Twitter @LatersBabyFR:

The rules have changed…. #CompromiseToGetYourGirl ❤️

This week I read:

trs hnhs

The Red by Nora Sutherlin was delightful in more ways than one. Firstly, I loved the concept of a writer (Tiffany Reisz) publishing her character’s book under the name of said character. In the Original Sinners series, the main female character, Nora, is an erotica writer, and this book is HER “published” novel. The books are talked about in quite a bit of detail in the originating series, and I loved that Tiffany stayed true to how she described them then. From the dedication to Soren on the title page, right down to the content (a scorchingly HOT, one-handed read 😉😉) and style (still an intriguing plot in typical Tiffany fashion, but with a healthy sprinkling of otherworldliness), all worked together to make this story seem like Nora’s rather than Reisz’s. Then, contributing to the sensuality of the book, was the stunning cover: a matte sleeve that looked every bit as good as it felt. It’s been a while since I’ve handled an actual book (as opposed to the e-versions), but I thoroughly enjoyed running my hands over this one! Lastly, the publishing company listed on the cover is called the 8th Circle, another cute wink at the original series and the name of the exclusive BDSM club they call home. I can only marvel at her creativity and skill to bring this together so well. The release date is yet to be announced, but should be within this year. I am lucky enough to have read this advanced, limited edition, hardcover thanks to a generous lady in Florida who thought of me when she went ogling our fav girl. Thank you, Sharon 😘

Staying with Tiffany Reisz, I read Her Naughty Holiday, book two in the Men at Work series. Thus far, this range is much more congruent with the HEA, hearts-and-flowers side of our genre. It amazes me that she can be so quirky with the Original Sinners series, and then write something as sweet and light as this. Again, it goes to show how very talented she is.

Currently I’m reading:

Breathe by Kristen Ashley, book four in the Colorado Mountain series.

I hope you have a brilliant week, girls. Don’t forget to check-in to share your latest and greatest reads with us!
