Between the covers book club

Hello there, lovely ladies đŸ€—

How was your week? With my hollies at an end, I went back to the ol’ ground stone. Aw well. I guess holidays won’t be as much fun if you didn’t have to slog too. 😜

But I do have some happy news… As you know, I’m seeing Darker on the 8th of February, compliments of Universal Pictures and their Launch Preview here in Brisbane, but this time, they are also offering a fun prize to 2 lucky Australian readers. Yay! 🎉

And if you’re not in the mood for a reread of FSD before it hits the cinemas, let Marie Claire remind you of the best bits. 😋

Before I start with the book club section, I’d like to share a link Sharon sent me.

Love – true, deep, accepting love, is a beautiful thing. Finding the one you’re meant to be with is magical, a thing capable of transforming your life, lifting you up. I may be a little old fashioned, but personally, I like well defined male and female roles. I like to know where I stand in a relationship, and what is expected of me. Beyond that, I want to know that my man burns for me, that he encourages me, wants what’s best for me, but can firmly rein me in when I need to be anchored. In my humble opinion, these traits are what made Christian so appealing. The Elephant Journal features an article extolling the virtues of finding a love like that. The short piece is worth the read, not only to melt your heart, but to remind you that you deserve to be loved – hard.

This week I read:

cics

Commander in Chief by Katy Evans, book two in the White House series. What a strange book this was. I feel like I somehow skipped the crucial chapters. There seemed to be some sort of buildup, I could sense the author setting it up, but it simply never came. No climax, no pivotal moment, just pages and pages of their life in the White House, glossy overviews of what could have been something. I get that a writer wants to draw a reader to a follow-on book, but why on earth would I read the third? And it’s not even going to be a sequel, but supposedly a standalone, taking place in Matt’s second term, not a continuation of this story. Huh. Like I said, strange.

Currently I’m reading:

em

Egomaniac by Vi Keeland. I always enjoy her books, and now, 2/3 in, I suspect that this will be another of hers going on my good-book list.

I love the Christian submissive scene and can’t wait to see it on the big screen. The exposure of just how vulnerable he is

I love, love, love having Darker to look forward to next month. So exciting. I’m taking a wild guess that the Australian movie passes won’t include airfare! Wouldn’t that be fun? I’ll get there one of these days!

Loved the blog about finding your warrior. That’s why we love these books so much, as we relive finding our warrior over and over and over. Passion – is just SO passionate!! Nothing like it. Can’t get enough.

Finished my EPIC paranormal finish to the Fever series. Devoured it is probably more accurate. It wasn’t my FAVE book of the series, but it was a satisfying ending. Karen Moning had so many loose threads, I couldn’t imagine them wrapping up in one book….but she did a pretty amazing job of it. Just a couple of things I would have liked more resolution on….but perhaps she will give us a couple of one-offs. She would certainly make big bucks off of them…just not from this group. LOL!

Haven’t quite decided where I’m going next….certainly no lack of books on my kindle!! (It survived my frantic chewing of anticipation last week.) It’s a fun choice to make. Have a lovely week, ladies!!

Hi Sharon! Sadly, nope. No airfare included. But that would have been fantastic! Yes, thank you for that stunning link. So good to remind ourselves that we’re worth more than we often give ourselves credit. It’s wonderful that you enjoyed your book. Few things are better than sinking your teeth into a great book! And I’m thrilled your Kindle made your gnawing!! I was worried there for a moment! LOL! Have a lovely week! 🙂

A quick hello as I finger type from New Zealand. Wonderful trip but I feel disconnected from real time. Trying to read a bunch of other books which I have to finish knowing a few genres are calling to me like the Sirens. And husband teasing me about my ‘deficient behavior’ in not keeping up with that part of my life… and slyly questioning whether anyone else on our trip would be reading the same kind of stuff…. uh, that’s a no.

Monique… I’ll be in your neighborhood at the time of FSD release… oh, what a clever pun there… but neighborhood in the broadest sense since I’ll be in Cairns and Sydney… and Brisbane only, what hundreds of km let alone miles from either

Hello Lissa. Welcome to my side of the world! đŸ€— LOL! I feel your pain, being the only soul with a penchant for hot men taking what they want from breathy girls! 😉 And yes, neighbourhood in a VERY broad sense. But still, it’s nice to know you are nearer! Hopefully you won’t get the filthy weather we’ve been having. And still, I don’t see any reason why you couldn’t slip into the nearest Gold Class with a glass of wine and ogle Jamie while you’re here! 😉
